Pleasant warm day at Home Fishery. Several good chub - up to 5lbs and plenty of bites. 1 small Barbel caught and four good fish got off or broke the hook link. The banks had been well tended with several swims available. All fish caught on meat or corn.

An early start although I should have got there for 4.30am and not 5.30am as the fishing was extremely good between 6 and 7.30am. Still had a couple more between 7.30 and when I left at 1pm but early morning was the best time.
A really quiet and beautiful spot with more Kingfishers then I have ever seen. The barbel weren't there but totally understandable as on this stretch the flow was slow and absolutely no cover. Rain dance required before the water temperature gets dangerously high over the coming weeks!

What's the opposite of 'wash off'? a 'dry off'? The Usk is the lowest I've seen it. A good pair of wellies and you could walk across the river in places.

Saw one dead six-inch trout. With the hot conditions, we quickly decided it was best for the fishes' health not to bother them unduly.

Lovely beat and we had a beautiful day for it too. We elected to fish in the meadow section. We started off with a few Chub but in the afternoon managed to each catch some Barbel. All were stunning colours, fought well and went back well too. We really enjoyed our day and will definitely return to this beat. The bird life was amazing and the wild flower meadow was beautiful. Such a rare sight these days. Thanks W&UF.

River level low but good to see fairly clear water and more weed growth than in previous years.
Barbel and Chub caught on meat. Barbel 4lb and caught in the faster water.
