2 x 12 inch trout, Dai Lewis' March Brown. Again that very chllly wind through the middle of the day and, having seen no rises, I was all ready to go home by 3 in the afternoon. However, in a quiet corner I came across a sheltered bit with a few March browns hatching which saved the day.

No action today, water still coloured and fast flowing. No fly hatch visible, very little fish activity.

WOW!!! ok I went up to fish all the pools at least once. Started at the top gutter ,spun it through nothing spring pool twice nothing, down into Hellrig nothing now i was getting disappointed started the house pool got to the boards carried on down then bang a fish on, it rose nice clean fresh fish, 20 minutes later I just managed to get its head in the net. A pure bar of solid silver fresh fish ,measuring 41 1/2 inches an absolute stunning fish to start the season

March browns came on for an hour but didn’t see a fish move all day. As mentioned in other reports, access is quite difficult but it’s beautiful water.

Fished for salmon at first, though learned later a very nice one had gone through Rectory recently and rested in Gromain waters!
Tiny grayling on a goldhead size 16..don't know how it got a mouthful of that fly!
