Fabulous day on the Wye. River was running at a great height (1’5”) but crystal clear. Once the shadows turned long, and put some much needed shade on the water I had a savage take in the head of Lady Alexandra’s run from a 38” hen. Cracking fish in great condition. Size 16 micro red Francis.

Gorgeous autumnal day on the river, a bit of pace and good colour on the river, really expected to see some Barbel but it wasn't to be. Chub to 5lbs. (2) half a dozen to bread on the float, remainder on the lead, one to pellet the rest to meat.

A beautiful setting.
The river had about 1ft to 2ft of water extra and was a perfect flow and colour..
The water temp was spot on especialy for mid october!!!
The weather was a bonus, lovely sunshine and calm wind...
A big plus there were no canoes!!!!
The barbel were in pristine condition up to 6lb 3oz..
So were the chub in pristine condition up to 4lb 5oz...

Fishing:Winter Grayling

The beat was looking peak in its spendid Autumn colours. Fish caught on french leader, duo and dry fly. Best grayling were 2lb ish taken on sedge emerger pattern. Fish rising in slower waist deep pools. Looked like they were feeding on emerging caddis pupae. Had two encounters with the otters, one of which was a young animal that popped it's head out the water only 2m away to see what I was doing in its pool. Hooked/missed as many fish again as caught - not sure if it was me or the fish having an off day. Either way a magical day on an amazing stretch of river.

2 Trout, 6 Grayling
