Warmer than of late and sunny, but with a cold east wind. A quite intensive hatch of large dark olives and a few March browns around midday. 4 x trout on various spiders. Plus a large one lost because the incompetent guide left the net back in the field!

Glorious sunny day with an easterly wind so not ideal. Very little hatching and even fewer rises. Saved the day with one 40cm trout on a speculatively cast paradun. Water very, very clear and getting a wee bit low - 0.381 on the Trallong gauge. Saw a patch of ranunculus !

Day started badly, got stuck on the way into beat, just inside the gate. Not allowed to park before the gate or under bridge where standing is good. Managed to free car with bits of wood. It had not rained for a fair few days so needs caution, or 4x4.

River not that high, did try salmon for the first hour or so then onto trout. There was a hatch around one o’clock which had a few fish rising, just not interested in my offering. Tried nymph mid afternoon and had a couple of takes in succession and finally landed one trout of a lot 1lb. First time on the water and really enjoyed.

It was a sunny day and the ground had dried out so no problem driving out. Thanks WUF.
