As a angler with health problems I struggled here today where the normal angler won’t have. Besides that I found a nice swim with a gully that gave up some nice perfectly formed barbel and chub plus a eel of 3+lb

Wow the water level is low. So I wasn’t really counting how many I actually caught but I lost more grayling than I got to the net, and I caught quite a lot. I caught one really good one and lost 4 better ones, the best probably after 3 or 4 minutes of playing it and I never even saw it!
I euro nymphed in the morning and clink and dinked from 4 till just before dark. Only one fish rose to the dry.
There were significantly more single fish rising early morning than evening. I didn’t catch a trout all day. Plenty of salmon par, again I lost count of how many.
Tried a bit of indicator fishing in the top section and will give it a proper go in a couple of days time when I do it all again. This is the first place I really fished in wales and I feel quite sentimental when I come back. Where have the trout gone though?

Always a challenging beat to fish, with some very difficult wading situations but it's well worth the effort – take great care on the slippery rock! Such a pretty place though, the fishing hut is great, there's so much water to cover and it holds a really good head of grayling. With such low water and bright sunshine, all but one were caught nymphing. Parking is interesting off the A470 – reversing down the rough track is advised!

I found this beautiful beat was low on water and too dry to fish but what water there was plenty of brown trout skurrying around in the shallows, I will return when in rains.

We have been fishing at Llwyn Onn for over 30 years but this year has been the worst. Nine hours fishing and only one bite/catch, between two of us, no fish rising at all. Speaking to the bailiff we were told that the lake is only stocked every two weeks now instead of weekly and due to be restocked on Thursday 9th September, the day after we visited. There were six other people fishing along from us and none of them caught any either. We were also led to believe that there used to be 500 fish a week put in but now only 400 every two weeks.
I can understand that there may not be as many people fishing at the moment due to the Coronavirus and so there is a need to put less fish in, but, why every two weeks? Us poor anglers who visit and pay good money to fish, during the week it is not stocked are getting a raw deal.

I am sorry for the rant but we are experienced fishermen and have never had a blank at llwyn Onn before, although know many people who have. Even when we have had a quiet session only catching one or two each we have always seen fish breaking the surface. Yesterday was flat calm for most of the day and saw nothing break the surface.
Please look at changing your restocking schedule.
