Great to be back down in the jungle again. While I only managed to bring one fish to hand there were numerous rises to a small Adams and some feisty takes. One day I will make it to the end of the beat.....

Nice peaceful beat, lovely aspect. Good access and really nice fishy looking varied swims. Tried many of these with multiple tactics. Hard to locate any real numbers of fish. River was low as has been the case lately but with a brown tinge to it. Nice day but went home slightly disappointed with my efforts. I worked hard but sometimes you cant make it happen. Fished below the orchard in the main field.

Decent start to the day despite the canoe traffic which is constant due to canoe hire trips from nearby Ross on Wye. I don’t think it scares the fish but it does limit you to fishing the near bank. 1 young barbel and some good chub over 3lb.

Started at the bridge again, a few fish about put on a small dry tups size 18 and moved up river, 3 trout, 2 x 8 ins, 1 x 10 ins. Half way up the beat I met 2 otters moving down river, fished up the rest of the beat, never seen another fish. I’ve fished the Ithon since 1958 but this is poorest the fishing as ever been. The otters are destroying the fishing between Llandrindod and Llanbadarn Fynydd.
Fishing Passport Note: 3 trout from a small river in July is not that bad a result. Unfortunately, there are more harmful threats to the Ithon and it's fish stocks than otters.
