The river was at a perfect level at this stretch after a couple of nights of rainfall previously to my first visit to thomas wood, the river was lovely and coloured when i arrived at 6:30 that morning with a lovely flow. At first it was quite a slow start only catching 5 chub before dinner time. But then in the afternoon it just came alive having another 5 chub amongst 7 barbel. What a great day. I used a small feeder with several different sized pellets in my bait mix. Just ashame u can only use one rod on this stretch as it is probably not always as productive on certain days. Definetly worth a visit though.
Fishing Passport note: the one rod per angler rule applies to nearly all day ticket fisheries let through the Passport.

River almost back to normal, fished meat and pellets both on the feeder and Stick float. A bite every chuck at the end but only one brief encounter with a (Guessing) good sized Barbel that decided he didn't want to see me. Caught 12 Chub from 1 1/2 lb to 4 1/2 lb. Great days fishing, I will be back !

Very pleasant day but very few fish seen, moving or rising. We each had one trout take but mine didn’t stay on! Both very small. No flies seen hatching - weather overcast, warm and dry Lots of Himalayan balsam seen along banks and also some Japanese knotweed

How lucky were we to get the river in perfect condition just a bit up after last weeks rain and still holding a bit of colour
Caught chub from the very beginning on banded pellet on the waggler, in 40 years fishing I have not had chub of the size and quality as I have had today.
Most of the chub caught were over 3lb and many of them were over 4lb and some were certainly over 5lb they were clearly young fish and were not the battered old warriors you can see, they were all immaculate fin and scale perfect. and a bright golden colour.
Could not catch a barbel on the float but one of my colleagues did catch 3 on feeder fished pellet
What a great day and it is a total pleasure to fish the Wye

River was looking really good with normal levels but a good colour. Barbel and Chub all caught on boilies using groundbait and pellet feeder. Thanks to Andy the gamekeeper for putting me in the right area. Look forward to coming back.
