First time out this season, and the first time on a WUF water. A lovely half day fishing from 8:00 to 12:30 but unfortunately no fish caught. Did see about six rises, usually while my Parachute Adams was in the trees.

Another very hot day. River could really do with some rain. No real rise on to speak of so went with a red-necked nymph. All trout from riffle sections and decent size, including one from an adventure into the wooded bit at the top of the beat, tough going up here.

Really nice day out, something of a safari too. Saw no less than two very big eels (first time seen ever!), a possible small 3rd or even a lamprey (unsure as it buried under a rock), what looked like a nice loach, and a few kingfishers. Also-saw a massive dead fish so went and retrieved with a net to investigate-is this just a massive brown trout or even a sea trout that has lost its silver? (Photo attached-am a size 11 foot for scale) NB fish was returned to where it was found. Also slightly worrying saw a large grayling floating downstream upside down, so flipped it over gently and sent it on it’s way. It’s gills were pumping as it floated so maybe overheating/not enough oxygen?
Lovely day overall, thanks WUF

WUF Note: We have reported the dead trout and distressed grayling to the Environment Agency. We ask all anglers who come across dead or dying fish to do likewise as soon as they can - 0800 80 70 60 if in England or 0300 065 3000 if in Wales.

Booked the beat on Tuesday 26th May and as the weather was looking hot and sunny decided to fish the afternoon into the evening. After travelling for over an hour I was extremely disappointed when I arrived at 1:40 pm to find a car parked in the parking space displaying a Wild Stream Season Permit. After contacting the Foundation to report the issue, the lady at the cottage very kindly allowed me to park my car next to hers. Fished a dry Mayfly pattern with a few Mayfly starting to hatch around 3:30 pm. Landed 3 plump trout all around 10 inches, hooked and lost several others and rose a few more. Saw a few Spent Mayfly later on but no real activity from the fish. What effect someone else fishing the beat before me had on my day I will never know.

Fishing Passport Note : The permit holder was contacted and reminded to check available beats before fishing.

Another cracker of a beat, parked at the bridge just after six , river looked good, a tad low but to be expected I guess at the moment , looked like it was going to be another scorcher sun already trying to say hello !!!! Reading ten in my truck wen I got out to gear up . . . . .
Initially tackled up the usual six foot two weight rod , and single tungsten size twenty PTN , and success after an hour!!! Wondered were the fish were !!!
Was surprised when a chap at about I guess half nine Was on the side of the bank , when I was changing flies and was querying about my wild streams permit , and where was it displayed on the dash , I mentioned it's in the old tax disc holder , and glad I eventually met B.P from Pembridge , had a good chat about the streams etc etc and was advised to try on the straight section ,B.P was trying slightly further up . .

The fish did come on the feed , even with the bright sun ,the deep shady pools harboured some lovely brownies, nothing huge but feisty on the light rod ,having six in total, two good misses on the dry today ,and two missed to the net on the barbless hooks . . .

Overall a fun five hours , and six Hindwell residents to the net , ranging from six to ten inches , so a nice wind down and also nice to bump into a wild streams enthusiast that lives local, happy days ,back here soon . . . .

Saw that a few others have had some success on this beat so thought I’d try it. Wandered the bottom section Up to the bridge but only saw one fish and no takes. Only had the morning free so will return for the rest another day.
A lot of fallen branches/trees but still a lovely morning out an about

I thought I would arrive early to avoid the sun but you've got to be very early to beat JA!
After a nice chat we decided it would be okay to park at the other spot and fish upstream from there.
Tried klink and dink to start and no interest in the nymph but missed a couple of rises so I tied on a #16 para Adams.
4 Trout to hand between 6 and 8 inches and the same amount missed.
Looks like the Weir at the top end got washed out in the winter floods.
