Not the best day, arrived at the location, got into the full kit and headed down towards the water. As I followed the stream up I found a dead sheep lying in the water. It looked like it had been there probably for a couple of days so that instantly was a bit of worry, conditions weren’t very good and the area didn’t look like it had been looked after at all. Honestly after probably about an hour I gave up, conditions weren’t correct, the dead animal in the water, the area itself. Just wasn’t for me. Being truthful and honest I wouldn’t recommend this area for a days fishing.

Shared the beat with three otters, two kingfishers and a heron - all more competent fishermen than me!
A hot sunny day with no hatch to encourage much activity. Fished the deeper stretches with a variety of beaded nymphs but with no success .

Fished from 10am till 7pm in baking hot weather.
Wasn’t expecting much as it was very sunny but the chub kept me interested throughout the day!
It all started around 11:00 with a lovely Barbel 9lb 11oz (on pellet and feeder) and then had chub until 5:30ish, when I had another barbel.
Ending up with 4 barbel and 7 good sized chub all on pellet from the lower field.
A good day considering the conditions.

Chris had more barbel today than his whole 3 day visit last year and well earned too.
Sherpa Coning added a few to the tally between his duties as chef.
A wonderful day on this stunning beat. It really is a treat to fish there.
