Second trip to Knill and the fishing was fantastic. Used duo and had 13 trout between 6"-9". Morning fish fell to the nymph, with mixed takes in the afternoon. It's a pleasant day to fish Knill as always; clean river and crystal clear water.

Beautiful stretch of river, with some very likely-looking holding pools. Despite not catching any salmon it was good to be out on the Wye again. Many thanks to the member angler and his friend for the advice and hospitality. The river was running clear and was around 1ā 6ā on the Llanstephan gauge..

Arrived at dawn and as mentioned for yesterday's feedback, pretty sure I saw an otter working the stretch. We gave it a few hours until the canoeists started again and again tried various swims etc. Nothing, barely a rattle on the tip.

Fished from 11 ish to dark on possible the most beautiful stretch of undoubtedly THE most beautiful river in the UK. Good job I was in good surroundings really as the (my) fishing was awful. Battled hard for 3 chunky chub and a bag full of chublets and dace on the float.
Settled in to a nice peg for last knockings and through very poor angling managed to hook three and lose three. One of the three bites was definitely barbelish, the rod bending round and the line screaming off the spool as once again I managed to miss the action whilst distracted, probably sorting maggots into size order or dislodging a particularly troublesome nettle from a personal area. Like a numpty, Iād put a new spool of line on and forgotten to reset the clutch, meaning the fish (it was huge, honest) toyed with me like a happy dog on a lead before spitting out my three year old boilie in contempt at my shoddy angling.
I think I scared the cows with my expletives as some of them let out some poo as I yelled Fxxx! into the country air. After waiting all day behind a static rod for a decent bite, you can imagine the disappointment of missing a monster (probably a double, almost certainly a PB and quite possibly a new British record).
I can still hear the scream of my reel, ending abruptly as the barbel chuckled its way back to the river bed to tell its mates about my comedy fishing.
That scream is gonna haunt me forever.
Tight lines all. And don't forget to check your clutch.

Sport improved when the sunlight left the water. Barbel between 5lbs and 9lb 4oz.
Disappointment at seeing a couple of previously good swims allowed to become overgrown and unfishable.
