Water levels good, water still very cold. Nymphs were the order of the day. Had a few short hookups. Nothing landed. Dragging the bottom through the deepest pools was the only real chance of success.

Weather good, no overnight frost, water 8c, the Wye looked good, tried everything pellets, maggots and luncheon meat. The only bit/catch was a little trout on maggot. Where have all the chub and barbel gone? Will be back in July

I spent a very pleasant late morning and afternoon looking for a window of opportunity from a hatch and a rise that either I missed or never came. The river was surprisingly fishable, and clear and although the sun broke through and the rain held off, there was a very strong downstream wind. I explored a lot of water but never saw or felt a fish. I did see two cormorants on the river, together, near the white post, as a kingfisher flew by. A couple of sections of the bank near the lower parking area have been eroded and undercut by the flood water, so take care.

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Up early and with the use of maggots on the Buith section only allowed till February I grabbed a small tin of jolly green giant and headed down to Buith . First trot through a small Grayling succumbed to my corn then nothing for an hour . Just about to call it a day when the run came alive with a couple of plump trout , a chub of around 3lbs and 5 nice grayling , the best going 2lbs 2oz . Called it a day when the tin was empty .
