The river was an ugly brown colour but tried over the gravel with the help of the owner. Nothing caught but a great location and well managed beat

Very quiet, overcast with light showers over 4.5 hours 12.30 - 1700 landed 2 from 4 contacts, fishing with light tackle (6lb line) and worm landed fish were 800g & 850g. Not sure of lost fish size one cast the hook, the other snapped the line on retrieval.

Following heavy rain the previous day the river had risen about 2 feet and was well coloured. Tried our usual swims but soon found that a lot of streamer weed was coming down below the surface and it was impossible to hold a rig in place for more than 10 minutes. We moved and found a swim with a semi slack behind a bush and this produced ten takes but only seven barbel landed, the others shedding the hook.

Overnight rain caused the river levels to rise and I was met with a raging brown torrent. No fishing possible and wading would have been foolish. Sadly too late in the season to claim a washoff . The level fell by nearly a foot by early afternoon, but it was clearly going to be a day or two before the river returned to a fishable state. Will be back for another try in the spring.

No sign of any fish moving despite it being a cloudy but warm day with a good ripple. Great scenery though!
