A window in the weather launched me out of the house around 14:30 for a couple of hours on this so inviting stretch of the Arrow. The recent downpours are beginning to find there way into the system but only slightly, perhaps still not enough. Missed one take to a Griffiths Gnat and that was it then nothing.
Returned to the car that I had to shove into a bush as the parking spot was occupied, met the owner on return, a very pleasant young lady wielding a chainsaw, she can park wherever she likes as far as I’m concerned ! :)

Excellent day on the river. Our first time on the Wye yielded some cracking fish. Barbel averaged 7lb plus with a couple towards 10lb.
Chub to around 5lb and 4 eels to 3lb.
Helpful advice from the keeper put us on the fish throughout the afternoon on a falling river after a rise of about a foot the previous day. Thanks.

River looked good, still rising a bit and coloured. A very bright and breezy afternoon but I hoped for some action. However all I caught were a few small chub. Thought about changing swims but then around six o'clock I had a barbel and decided to stay put. However no further sign of barbel, just some more chublets, with one decent fish and an eel. All on pellet or sweetcorn.

Went high up the system to avoid coloured streams lower down. OK on arrival early afternoon, but very quickly two downpours in close succession raised the level by 8 inches and turned the water peaty brown. Persevered with nymphing and had a few missed takes and a small wbt in the evening, by which time normal level and clarity had been resumed. Good to have room for the backcast for a change and red kites, heron and numerous toads added to the scenic variety.

Slow visit indeed, not a bite - didn't see anything rising. No sign of any fish whatsoever. :(

Glorious day but river unrecognisable from past year's. the beach swims were completely under water and a torrent of brown water was passing through. Managed a barbel of 8.25lb and two chub of 3.5lb each from finding some slacker water swims. All caught in later afternoon.

Enjoyable evening session. Fished down the dam from the gate and around the shore at the bottom. Fished a sedge pattern again and caught 4 brownies. Highlight was catching a lovely long lean brownie that weighed 1lb. A stunning wild fish.
