Very bright, hot, and the river was low. There were mayfly about, and some trout rising, but they were very choosy and with the conditions, seemed unwilling to eat an artificial fly. The upper part of to beat in the wood is hard going in places, where a machete, if not a chainsaw would be handy! A very pretty stretch of water with some challenging fishing. Given the conditions, I should have stayed until dusk when there might have been more activity.

1 small trout caught on a nymph at the riverbend. River very low and very hot today, saw fish in the shaded ares in willows and deep holes - didn't seem interested in anything on surface even though mayflies abundant. very pretty spot though, would like to return when conditions a little better.

After a break of 2 years due to building my house and illness, it was nice to get back on the river. Rewarded with rising 3 fish in the first 4 casts but not connecting, a bit rusty I think. Soon got into the swing of things though and finished up with 4 trout to a grey duster so pleased with my first few hours after a long break

Fished from bottom of the beat, starting at 6:00pm and finished at the beat end 8:30pm. Was hoping for a mayfly extravaganza with fish gorging, but hardly any rises and some, but not many mayfly. Hey ho. Stuck with bushy shadow mayfly and rose 3 in likely runs, all coming to hand. Still too early maybe?
