River almost at bank full so an aborted trip, I threw my heaviest team of Disco Shrimps into the fast flowing gloom but to no avail.

River was running high and fast. Swims at the croy end of the beat were inaccessible due to river level so we fished mainly in the first meadow. Ledgered a pellet hookbait in the near side slack water and caught steadily until around 3pm when the bites dried up. Should be just right in a couple of days.

After yesterday’s struggles on the Creel and the rains falling heavily most of the night, we were not overly optimistic arriving at the river and seeing it very high. Found the swims with the slacker water and hoped for the best. Not a single bite all morning and with a river still rising, hopes were diminishing rapidly. After we stopped for a bite to eat at lunchtime the barbel must have decided it was feeding time too. 5 barbel to just over 10lb and a couple of small chublets was a pleasant surprise in such a swollen river. Plus the sun came out!
As a footnote we stayed at the Hostelrie at Goodrich and we can highly recommended it, good food, beers and wonderful staff.

Heavy Rain overnight raised the river level by 0.5 metres so sadly no fishing was possible - beautiful stretch of the Irfon - already planning our next visit

River much lower than of late but banks still very slippery. Ropes made the manhole swim in Legg meadow fishable with care, not sure if these were left by another angler or provided by the fishery.. thanks either way! Fishing was fairly consistent through the day. 2 anglers fished, doubled up in the same swim from dawn to early afternoon when we had had enough of the persistent heavy showers and the banks deteriorated into an ice rink! Managed 5 takes between us with 3 barbel in the 6-9lb range landed. Pellets and pva bags were the chosen approach.
