A final wild stream trip for the time being - a few days staying up near Longtown coming to an end. Again a small and relatively untended stream, but plenty of fish were in little runs and pools. I only really covered the bottom half of the beat and found 8 willing to take either nymph or klink. Lost a few too. Best was from a very deep pool - just as I was lifting to cast a beautiful 14" fish took the nymph. Which kept me very happy, in spite of the fact that having released it, it was impossible to wade the pool and there was a vicious barbed wire fence on the RHB were I was supposed to be. Not sure how I was meant to progress from there - walked the length of the field but no crossing point. In the end I climbed it, and seemed to survive (as did waders) but far from ideal. LHB not viable either, although fishing was single bank only at that point. Enough complaining - a lovely stretch, fish 6-14". And a minnow.

Wuf comment: barbed wire noted for treatment, many thanks for letting us know

An enjoyable day, though conditions challenging. two reasonable size fish hooked, but lost both :0( Three men fished through the beat with spinners whilst I was fishing, which was rather frustrating!

Well with myself and Mrs A on a couple of weeks hols , some admin tasks done in the morning , and some painting started in the back porch , felt it heigh time to pop down to the Arrow and tussle with the lovely brownies in there . . . . Opted for the Kington beat . . . . .

Nearly four when I ecventually got down there , looking a lovely height and water pushing through nicely , renewed vigour with this old girl , nice too see and more rain due tomorrow , happy days !!!! Cool as well with my old neaoprene waders on too , Great stuff . . . . First pool and a cracking take , good fish too , must have been twelve inches , absolute cracker , feisty brownie too good run around spot on !!!! In the tally of nine this evening , three more were over ten inches , all on the drys , Para Adams and Para Greenwells . . . , fat tubby brownies , superb !!!!

Also put on a new furled leader made by L. B. Very pleased with it , old one was looking a bit like the rope of an army scramble net , had more knots in it than I care to mention , so was lovely casting a new one , although the old one has done me well this season so far on the wildest of streams . . . Including the top half of the Kington beat which is like the mangrove swamps at the mo , but have been assuredly its on the WUF " to do " list . . . . . Tidy job !

A great two and a half hours , some lovely takes , and real vigour in the trout , think they needed the fresh water , and up at the weir , flowing over it nicely now , about time really !!! Last fish was from the weir pool , in the fast water , bang , cracking little nine inch fish , as always lovely colours quickly slipped back in . . . . . .

Walking back along the field margin , spooked Charlie who must have been out doing his rounds for an easy meal , funny really their russet colour blends in so well when foxes are still . . . Nice too see , and a superb relaxing wind down to a busy couple of days , Llynfi or Edw some stage over the weekend , weather permitting , . . . . . . . Don't you just love these balmy summer evenings !!!!!

Oh finally , I did check the Willy Brook , close to th econfluence with the Arrow , just down from the parking area , looks to be running well , water colouration normal , and lifting a few stones , plenty of insect life , also a small bullhead darted off from one stone I lifted , so a good sign . . . . May it continue !

Syfydrin has long been a favourite.... thanks for taking the AA waters to the passport folks, so much easier than chasing around after a ticket.

The upland Llyns can be moody...we have had 30 fish days here but not yesterday, 9 safely returned beauties on sedges was our lot. Smallest 4” but majority 12-14 inches...in great condition and strong scrappers. A special place....

Fished the first swim by the fishing hut and only 2 of us fished. Had a chub on feeder tactics with pellets and then another 3 on trotted bread which seemed to be the tactic of the day. Wish we had tried it sooner but that’s fishing! Was a long walk past the wood to the other swims which would be fine with less gear or if roving.

Arrived on a beautiful morning with river at 0.88 m and the colour of Assam’s finest. River dropped 4 inches on the day and gradually clearing. Beat looked stunning and went through the repertoire for 8hrs with fly and spinner. No sign of Salmo Salar for me but my buddy saw a good fresh fish on Rock and had a fish lunge at his fly on the back cast. It escapes many people how we have such a great day without catching but we do. That feeling of anticipation when the river is right is indescribable. Our time will come again.

A few hours in a late afternoon and evening session. Good flow in the river, which rose several inches while I was there. A fair amount of weed in my swim but managed to negotiate this to land five nice barbel up to 7lbs 12 ozs. All on pellet and feeder.
