Another great day on this beat. Fished down the far end. Caught 5 barbel straight away in the first hour at first light. All
On pellet and feeder. Then switched to wading and float after that and caught loads of chub and a few more barbel. Great sport and a perfect day. Managed to get out just before the storm kicked in too.
It’s worth mentioning that you need to park really tight to the fence as there are some big vehicles that need to get down that road. I didn’t realise that and had to go back and move my van.
Really lovely well managed beat and Bailiff was really helpful.

Great to be back on the river but very slow fishing. Had 1 chub of 4lb all day. Beautiful stretch however and incredibly well kept. Will certainly be back.

Two anglers. Whilst we arrived in bright sunshine, the dark clouds amassing over the hills should have given us a clue. Before we got a fly in the water the heavens opened and the black sky above us was flashing with lightening and deafening us with thunder. It only lasted about 45 minutes but the damage was done. The water levels started to rise and the colour changed to resemble weak oxtail soup. Were we deterred? Hell no! A few hours later we had managed to winkle out a small brown trout each, both falling to nymphs, but that was it.

We were only two anglers in the end as my other mate couldn't make it, but we enjoyed a good days fishing in mostly dry conditions. The river level was slightly down and moving slowly until the storm hit us at around 6.00pm. After that there was a bit more flow and the bites certainly became more confident. My mate caught steadily throughout the day on Cheese amd Garlic Pellet, but not Halibut. I had nothing until my last three casts, when I had three fish all on Halibut Pellet. Unfortunately, we had to leave at 8.00pm as we had to be home before our 24 hours was up! :-) As per usual on the Wye, the wildlife especially the birds were amazing and in abundance!

A lovely early evening on Abbey Dore yesterday, landed three beautiful WBT up to 10" and missed many more. Having fished the beat previously I went armed with a short rod, even then any kind of casting is pretty much impossible, so bow and arrow casting allowed me to cover the likely looking spots. Not many rises so stuck with a gold head nymph. I waded the whole beat except for a 10 feet section that was too deep. A very enjoyable few hours.

The river was in need of water, very sluggish. The storm that arrived at the end of the day will have helped but a good couple of days proper rain is required. My first time on this beat and a lovely stretch with easy access to the bank. Fishing was slow but that was likely due to the condition of the river. One small but very healthy barbel of about 2 pounds and a good sized eel which was good to see if not to catch.
