The Wye was in perfect condition for a winter fishing session; likewise the weather. I was not disappointed, with barbel up to 7lbs and the best chub over 41/2 lbs. Halibut pellet and meat were the baits used with feeder method.

Well after a mahooooooosive stretch of not getting out on the rivers due to several aweful spells of flooding was nice to eventually get out on the Arrow , did really want to give Noke a bash , but saw it was booked for today, shall give that a bash early on thursday me thinks !! A nice change from Winter Grey Squirrel bashing , and great to get out on the river at last !!!!!!!!!
Opted for Arrow Mill beat instead , got there about nine, still heigh and running a bit murky , due to yesterdays three hours of rain I guess, although still fishable with tungsten nymphs I thought , and my hunch was right !!!
First feisty fish on in deep area just up from the bridge , only an eight inch trout but boy he had some gusto , with the mild weather I think he thought it was May !!!!! Forgotten what they looked like , lovely colours quickly slipped back in . . . .
Second fish another brownie, again eight or nine inches , slower deeper water on point olive tungsten nymph, ditto , quickly slipped back in . .
Moving up some gravel bars been created and serious bank erosion , had a chat with owner , they had it flooding into farm buildings etc etc !!!! Not good and surrounding ground have to be carefull where you place your feet !!! Due to collapsing sink holes etc etc !!
Anyway back to the action , did eventually hit into some ladies , and quite nice size for here too , two nice ones on the pink shrimp pattern , both some size, about ten inches , and a smaller one , only about seven inches .Up passed the weir , did have a lovely chubb on but didn't quite make the net , great run around on the eight foot four weight though !! A really fun three hours , time for home and a bimble down the valley with the 20 bore , see if there is any
squirrels out on parade, fun morning back soon , Noke or Llandewi next week , happy days !!!

Fished the whole beat from the road bridge to the weir in 5 hours. A lot more fishable than my previous visit in early November, although a little less water would of been preferable. Trotted maggot landing 2 trout and 1 grayling, all 3 around the 10" mark.

Cracking day out in beautiful countryside on a nice easy beat but no fish caught or seen. Fished top to bottom trundling heavy nymphs through several very inviting pools and runs. Very mild afternoon and stopped for lunch near bottom of beat watching the long slow deeper flats section but nothing rising. Tried a dry red tag back upstream anyway and revisited the deeper runs and pools with team of nymphs again but grayling elusive for me today.

Tough going. One sizeable fish on a pink tag. Didn't find the most promising water at the top of the beat until dark, and spent too much time flogging marginal bits downstream. This stretch of river appears to have taken a real beating over the past few months. Banks severely eroded in places with no natural stabilization. Twice, huge chunks collapsed into the river near me as I fished, despite low water.

Fished various swims upstream from the hut with pellet feeder/meat and cheese paste. Not a twitch all day. Managed to wheedle out a 5lb chub on roving with meat in first swim downstream of the wood. I blame an over night water temp drop, not my bad angling!

River clear but perhaps a little high (0.53 at Climery) The bedrock is like walking over the tops of slate tiles stacked almost vertically :) Can be challenging and if you are unsure then a stick is advised.
Parking and access great. Clear path along the river but watch the wobbly stile :)
The Glaslyn pool offered the best fishing with easier casting and relatively solid standing, though as the helpful beat description advises, watch for the gravel sliding. It was here we landed our one Grayling just downstream of the pool to a bead head nymph.

One decent Brown Trout, who had forgotten it was out of season, safely returned but no Grayling. River had dropped and cleared quickly after previous night's rain. Good looking beat with plenty more to explore another time. Bedrock wading challenging but some lovely gravelly stretches.
