Early arrival. River 0.64m and lovely colour. A few fish seen of various sizes and hues, including a fresh grilse which nearly ran over my foot on Upper Rock! A 13lb colouring cock fish accepted my Feeler Cascade and was safely released after a good fight. Nice kip in the afternoon sun. Things surprisingly quiet later on in spite of very high tides. A delightful day's fishing.

Water in good condition and with plenty of flow today. No rising fish yet again but caught some small trout, grayling and a couple of salmon parr. Saw one salmon briefly! I went to where it was and had a take from it, but it got off. Overall a pretty dead day.

No salmon seen all day. River level slightly below ideal fly fishing height, according to our guide, Jonathan Morris. River dropping slightly. Enjoyed my first visit to fish the Wye, with a number of good fly fishing sections.
Waders need to have a good set of studs as the rocks are very slippery
Jonathan Morris was a pleasant, helpful informative guide/ghillie.

This beat has a substantial amount of fishable water (0.43 on the Abernant gauge) and is in three distinctive sections. The upper and lower parts, which I didn't have time to explore fully, are faster flowing, rockier and more overgrown. The middle part is more gentle-paced, open and easy going underfoot over gravel, with very easy access.
Most of the grayling were quite small (1/2lb) with 4 over a pound and the biggest 1 3/4lb (weighed in the net). The trout were in great condition and gave a good account of themselves. The biggest weighed in at 2 1/2lb and provided me with a spectacular display of aerobatics.
All fish were caught on a variety of dries (emergers) with the fish willing to come up to them all day and well into the evening. A great day on a great beat.

Last day of a 5 Day trip on a falling River. Surely today was going to be a slower day for aching arms after the previous 4 action filled days on the Wye. The three Whiskerteers from Yorkshire signed off in style. Barbel from the off fell to all three rods through out this beat ,applauded by the on looking Kingfishers perching on the odd branch to watch the action before joining in .Pellet feeder was king today. Five days on the mighty Wye brought a total of 202 Barbel and 43 Chub to three rods. What can i say Dream fishing at its best. Thank you Wye & Usk back in Oct when i have recovered.
