Despite low water, managed a number of trout to about 3/4 lb while salmon fishing, but lost a much larger fish mid afternoon. All taken [and lost] on a single, barbless hook, size 4 gold mepps.

A warm and mostly overcast day that promised much but the hatch and rise never materialised. Best fish were caught in the tail of the wonderfully named sewage pool.

Very little moving. Crossed the river at the bottom of the beat to fish the lower pools but nothing to be seen. A couple of fish to the dry and nymph. Tough day!

Weather fine and warm with river just over .6m and very clear.
Both John and I fished the woodstream end to end. John had 2 trout of around half pound each
I fished a grannom to start to no avail then switch to a gold head hares ear nymph at the concrete groin and was immediately into a fish of between 2.5 and 3lb. Battled with it for about 2 min but it broke the 3lb maxima line.
Shame.
Very few rises and no salmon seen but an interesting day

Evening fish, 5.00pm - 8.00. Overcast, no breeze. Fished 300m down from the bridge, and started with #16 orange spider and bibio and had a couple of knocks but no takes. No obvious hatch but the occasional rise became apparent, so switched to a March Brown and drifted it just below surface - first fish to the net was a 10” brownie, with the second 12” 10 minutes later. Just happened to catch it right, then went quiet. Both were beautiful condition fish (and my first ever on the Usk) so smiles all round! Both returned. At 8.00pm it started to get quite lively with regular rises - lost one more when I missed the take, but then had to go in for my tea!! Great evening fish that will be long remembered (already planning the next trip).

Very little fly despite nice calm overcast conditions, so not much surface activity. Aside from a very feisty 17”er, the fish were small. Most caught on nymph.
