Arrived at river at 9am it was in perfect condition after yesterday’s rain up about a foot & holding nice bit of colour. Wayne hooked small sewin by the parking area & returned on flying c. I lost one soon after.

We fished through the Crewil pool. Wayne lost a nice sewin about 3lb carried on through the pool. Wayne hooked & returned a salmon about 5lb then he hooked another & returned about 10lb. What an enjoyable mornings fishing. We both can’t wait to return to the stunning beat.

River was in flood due to heavy rain the day before, water was chocolate brown and presented very difficult conditions , still was able to produce a couple of fish, from the somewhat submerged boards near the hut.

With plenty of rain the day before and forecast looking good, expectations were high. Having travelled the one & half hours I arrived just before 7am, the river was coloured and dropping. I chose the sewage pipe as recommended and after three or four casts I was rewarded with my first bite and after a short battle with a heavy fish, the hook pulled..!! After that the swim went very quiet at mid-day I decided it was time for a move, with weather improving and sun popping in and out I didn't think I'd catch again. How wrong I was.... early afternoon came with a flurry of two fish in quick succession, 1 x 7lb 4oz & 1 x 8lb 6oz then the swim went quiet.

The canoe traffic was predictably heavy, most again very courteous, some never seen a fisherman, and did not know what to do when a line is in the water.... go around? All in all it was a great day on the river, I will be looking forward to returning ASAP.

Bait - Fishmeal ground-bait mixed in with 4 & 6mm Halibut pellets, hemp & corn and banded pellet on the hook.

Would you believe it, a rising river! Lovely to see and not a problem until it went a dark chocolate colour and large rafts of weed and debris came floating by. Still, great to be back on the river at a decent level and temperature.

Actual number of trout caught was about 24, almost all were returned and were too small to keep. Two were kept for the frying pan one about a pound and one about ten ounces. All caught on light tackle using worm. Weather was overcast about 18 Celsius. It had rained locally two days earlier leaving a good flow with slightly coloured water.

Dale Parsons and Lee Hoard were guided by myself for the day. River at perfect height and fining down. Spate turned grayling and trout on the feed finding plenty of fish in all runs. Used mainly duo and French leader with a few trout taking the stimmy. Big bugs the order of the day. Red letter Day Fishing, hit the water perfect height and falling with a slight peaty colour finding fish relatively easily. Dale and Lee both had specimen fish fighting well in the extra water. Would recommend wading staff to get to the slower pockets where the fish seem to be sitting. Trout feeding hard on the bug. Pattern of the day is in photo to follow. Good angling by Lee and Dale.
