A beautiful hot sunny day in the Wye valley didn't bode well for a busy days fishing Fished a couple of swims that had produced well on the last trip but struggled for any bites. One 3lb barbel and one chub (5-8!) landed. Moved swims mid afternoon and were rewarded immediately with some rod wrenching bites from both mid river and the near bank. Hectic couple of hours provided 10 barbel up to 9-4 and 9 more chub! Fish fed constantly from 16:30-19:30. Pellet and boilie doing the trick!

11 Barbel, 10 Chub

River starting to show it's bones now. When we stopped fishing the main Rectory pool a fish rose, two minutes later another older fish rose,no chance of catching them. We moved to the Mill pool where I went to the very top of the run and a fish turned , covered it with a Geoff Francs work horse, and felt a light suck but not sure what that was. Last time on river for a while unless we have a lot of rain

Fishing:Trout (River)

Wonderful evening (1730-2100h) fishing on the Taf Fawr above Pont-y-Cafnau on Merthyr Angling Association water. Access not that easy (take small path going upstream on left bank and there is a smaller path steeply cutting down the amazing sloping rock buttress). With lowish water levels all pools were wadable or turnable with care. A 7 foot rod is ample for side casting under overhanging trees which shaded the river well on a sunny evening. There were a few fish rising; took a 9" BT with a red spinner and pricked a couple more. In faster water a Copper Head PT nymph accounted for a 10" BT. Left the river at the footbridge and skirted back on the metalled footpath back to Pont-y-Cafnau.
