Fished from 9,30 till 1pm, cause a long drive back to London. First time on this beat, and managed to catch several BT, all between 1 and 2 pounds in weight, plus other 10 or so graylings. All fishes taken with long French Leader fishing in the few fast waters left. Despite the lack of water, another great day on the Wye.

First time fishing the beat. Although a fairly straight creek, there are plenty of features to allow stealthy approach without spooking the fish. Certain parts are clear enough for a good long overhead cast, resulting in some bonus fish. Easy wading overall.
18 WBT, not very big ones but good fun to catch. All took a Hare’s ear Klinkhammer in size 14, despite no rises. Most takes were explosive, making me jump and heart pounding. I could have caught plenty more if it was not the issue with dog walkers.
Sadly, this beat clearly has an issue with dog walkers. Basically, they don’t care about an angler. Even when seeing someone fishing, they still allowed their dogs to jump in the water. The worse owners threw sticks in the pool you were fishing. I appreciate it is not a private river and will be happy to share its use with other activities. However common-sense and courtesy should come up to the owners' mind to keep their dog out of the water when someone is fishing. I have fished a free stretch in Bristol many times, where it is common to see 30 dog walkers in an evening. Most will keep their dogs under control. When seeing someone fishing, they simply move to other stretches of the river. Those that jump in are because the dogs are well-ahead of the owners but then then the owners would apologise, get their dog out and move somewhere else. Unfortunately, the attitudes of all I came across yesterday were not like that. Some saw me, spoke with me but still allowed the dog to jump in and laughed. All I could do was to laughed back. Their logics simply escape me!

So thumps-up for fishing but thumps-down for the public atmospheres.

Had a wonderful session on a scorchingly hot day.
One swim near the parking area at bottom of the field in the middle of the stretch was showing plenty of schooling barbel and chub by a fallen tree. 3 came from there.
But the real winner was further down in the faster stretch, opposite the gravel bank, where we could constantly see large barbel flashing in the deeper water. We had 14 from there between about 2pm and 7.30pm. Ranged from about 3lb to 10lb top weight. Lost a few as well.
The best barbel session of my life and can't wait to get back here asap!

Our glorious summer goes on. Come mid-afternoon, it was maybe too hot for fishing but, nay bother as, with an early start, I was ready for home by then. Some nice Grayling - fish of 12" plus - from the bottom of the beat. Ditto from Lady Alexanders Catch. The odd fish upstream before a close encounter with an enormous Barbel up by the Edw. Note to self - a 4 wt rod and a tennis racket sized landing net are not the ideal tools for dealing with a double figure Barbel. Tres bonne
