Spent an hour fishing the lower half of this beat on a lovely evening. Sky was thick with mayfly on approach but little activity on the water. Hooked a nice WBT on a Yellow Wulff but lost it. Beautiful spot with some reasonably accessible pools, particularly higher up the beat.

Fished for a couple of hours after lunch (not the best time of day). River in good condition with mayfly rising - no fish rising or seen. Some lovely damsel flies: these, the garden flowers and the sound of the weir and water wheel was enough!

My first time here and a tough day fishing wise, river getting very low with very few aquatic insects coming off, the only real hatch of the day was of the tiniest upwings I’ve ever seen, these were then joined by a very limited number of larger insects, just enough to get the odd fish to show itself once or twice if you were lucky.
However I managed to find enough to keep me fishing dries and enjoyed some very stealthy wading targeting difficult fish but at the end of the day only one was brought to hand, this may sound like a lousy days fishing but it was thoughly enjoyable with fish lost and missed during the day. There are some wonderful dry fly flats which would make fantastic fishing with a decent hatch, I’ll definitely be back.
