4 Trout,2 on a para adams and 2 on nymph. A good hatch of various upwings from 13:00 including some sizeable flies maybe Turkey brown? The fish showed no interest with only a couple of rises seen.

Social media seems to have been plastered with photos of large Usk, Taff and Teifi trout in the past week so I thought the upper Wye might be worth a try. I've only fished Craig Llyn before in late summer and autumn so it was nice to be there on a lovely spring day. There were only a few fish rising but having struggled in the morning using NZ style, I switched to very small cdc shuttlecock emerger with some success.
The numbers weren't huge but this was made up for by some wild browns of superb quality. The biggest went 2.5lbs (weighed in net) but perhaps the most satisfying was a 2-pounder picked up on a parachute Adams while prospecting in the pocket water below the flats. 5 of the others were around the 1-1.5lb mark.

It was a lovely day to be on the river. Probably could have done with a little cloud cover, but it was a pleasant temperature and a reasonable hatch of flies. There were takers of these flies but not that many. I felt a 'hatch' hadn't quite happened and many fish might not have bothered coming to the surface.
I caught several fish, including grayling up to 1lb, and, as per usual, missed many others. One was a decent trout, perhaps 2lb. No salmon seen.

Hot and bright sunshine making fish spooky. Only fished dries and some nice hatches although fish not rising too freely. Good, interesting and challenging fishing.

Dry fly and nymph - lots of feeding going on at the mouth of the river flowing in...could not give it much time, so no fish.

It was a beautiful day on an amazing stretch of river. The fishing was challenging due to the brightness but we found some trout. Most were caught on nymphs with a couple taking dries. A few large fish were spotted and spooked in very thin water. A fair amount of fly life - hawthorns, upwings and large sedge but not many rising fish.

Arrived at the fishery a little later than hoped due to a few too many beers the previous evening. Absolutely stunning place and totally unexpected from what I've seen of the rest of the Usk. Access is relatively easy and didn't see another person all day.
I started swinging a small bottle tube through Tail Pool; briefly hooked into what was either a salmon or the mother of all trout. Few big head shakes and fly came out. Pool fishes quite nicely and definitely worth a go! Not much true fly water elsewhere, but Thorn Pool is also worth a swing, particularly with a little more water.
Did find two trout sipping emerging olives later in the afternoon as the sun began to drop. Managed to get colleague into a decent casting position, he missed the first fish before hooking the other. He proceeded to land his first Usk brownie of 2lb on a tiny cdc emerger after cracking fight. Nothing else really rising despite good hatches of sedge, olive and the odd mayfly.
Would love to know who owns/sells fishing on the left bank here, it seems a magnet for some very large trout, especially at the top of the Greenbank beat.
As a note to dog owners: Lots of sheep in the beat field. Took my lab who isn't really bothered by livestock, but be aware.

A tough day - crystal clear water, and bright sunlight all day - but a terrific beat to fish. All attempts with nymphs and spiders produced only nips and tugs; the only fish caught were off the top to small olive emergers. Loads of fly-life, and numerous fish rising, but no luck connecting. We will try again !
