River very low with fishing over thick weed. A warm and bright afternoon gave way to a cloudy evening and the fishing improved accordingly. The last three hours brought all the barbel with another five or six lost. As usual on this beat most of the barbel were small, but the catch included three probably approaching the four pound mark. All on feeder and pellet.

For the past couple of years whenever we visit the Wye it is either 20 feet deep or 20 inches....no doubt others have enjoyed similar challenges recently.
We made the trek up that hill and at the summit were moving about the same pace as the England team in extra time the night before but fortunately the effort was rewarded with some good fishing.
It was fairly steady all day and we are delighted to report the fish still fought hard but all recovered swiftly after given a little time rested in the landing net.
Feeder was the method and did not use too much feed in the low water conditions.

Great day on this lovely stretch of river. Wading is tricky because of the boulders but even with so little rain recently and low and clear conditions there was plenty of opportunities with deep runs and pocket water.
Not a fish rose all day but the Grayling seemed happy to come from deep and smash my dry fly. One fish actually lept at it as I picked off to recast! All caught on a pale 16 Adams. All good size fish too and fin perfect.

Only had four hours to wet a line on the lovely Court of Noke beat , again warm when I turned up at eight , although not as hot as a few days ago . . . . Only about 23 positively cold !!!!

Did rig up the six foot two weight with a small Parachute Adams , but no real interest to be honest , and after a couple of pools and likely runs , went for a single tungsten pan which seemed to be more favourable and picked up a fish quickly prospecting the little nymph in likely trouts places !!!

One fish was on for a while and gave me a right run around , good strong fish , must have been fifteen inches , he did clear the water twice , half way up the beat in that deep pool that meanders to the left , absolute cracker , but with the barbless hook was off after a twenty second tussle , oh well nice little scrap though . . . .

All the fish today were very healthy and the usual Arrow stamp between five and twelve inches , was nice just mooching upstream slowly , I did not go right up to the start of the beat , three quarters perhaps . I did , on two occasions swap the nymph for a dry CDC , but couldn't get any interest , which was a shame . . So back on with the nymph to cover the last two hundred yards , were I picked up another two fish both again tubby and displaying the lovely Arrow colouration , a fun three and a half hours sport , five beauties caught and released , water clarity is absolutely clear as gin , and again like the Kington beat very very low , roll on a bit of rain . . .
May possibly have some this week , and thunderstorms so they say , that will be a blessing , back soon to this varied fun beat , happy days . . . . . . . . . . . .

Didn’t fish today after three frustrating days on the wye. Think we need to wait for some rain.

A nice short walk to the river found it low and clear. Fished from 6 til 3, taking all the fish on centre pin trotted corn and luncheon meat alternating between 2 swims. All the fish were in good condition, bar for a few lice which were removed. A couple of the barbel were around the 1lb mark, the rest were between 5 and 7lb. Thank you Wye and Usk for a fabulous day on the river.
