The cloud cover forecast when I booked did not materialise - bright sun. Usual profusion if Usk valley wildlife but no fish

Just a quick hour and a half on the Pinsley Brook , the usual two beats , WUF and private one , fished from six , still muggy but the sun loosing its shine for the day , and casting long shadows . . . thankfully . . . .
Usual haunts , just watching the water , then sneaking covertly into position , takes some doing , although the first fish, I managed to get within five yards and still splashy rises , kneeeling in the water , and getting closer and closer , then a catapult cast , bang first fish on , feisty little seven inch brownie , quivpckly released !!!!
Same tactic on second fish , sneaking up to a rise , Parachute Adams again , and got very close , released fly and thankfully landed delicately , in his feed lane and wallop , another on , perhaps eight inches , went ballistic in the clear water !!!!
Last fish , caught about ten to eight , same stamp , and the one place I can actually cast , and text book , nice rise to the eighteen Adams , great fun , and a fun hour and a half , rounding off a very pleasant weekend , time to hit home for a coooooooool amber nectar !!!!!! Back soon !!!!!!

I caught one brown trout on a micro spinner. Was there all day. Very disappointing, but fantastic scenery and so many red kites hanging on the wind was an amazing sight. Sad to see so much rubbish and fishing line lying around at such a beautiful spot. Filled a Tesco carrier bag with line and other discarded items and took them home with me.

This was my first visit to this beautiful piece of water but it certainly won't be my last!
Not having done a great deal of wading the huge gravel glide at the bottom of the beat was a godsend and confidence booster. However on this beat there are conditions to suit everyone - glides, riffles, broken water, gravel, boulder and bedrock (very slippery!).
There was a sporadic hatch of duns that the odd fish was sipping off the surface. I managed to tempt two 8' brownies with a drifted fly but none of the rising fish.
All this 20mins from home. I'll be back!

Fished from 11:00 to 15:00, caught just the one trout (returned). Two other anglers had similar luck. Hot day but nothing significant hatching. Saw a few fish but they weren't feeding. River level was 0.62m at the Pont Gadwyni station which was OK for wading, lower would be preferable.
