My first time on this beat and had great fun. I decided to attack it with my tenkara rod and a gold headed nymph and was not disappointed. Hooked into a beautiful 8" out of season brownie within the first few casts at the bottom of the beat. I then had two grayling of a similar size from a pool round the corner. It then went quiet for the next hour or so and i was beginning to wonder if I had already seen my last fish of the day. I then partially fell in and got water in my waders which was not great. I soon forgot about this misfortune when I landed a 12" brownie from the next pool up. A 14" fish then slammed into the nymph on the next cast into the same small pool and put up an awesome scrap on the tenkara rod.
Some grayling were rising in the next pool up so I switching to a small pink F-fly and managed to tempt one small lady which was nice. Sadly this spooked the rest of the shoal so the dry was swapped for the nymph. I lost a hefty grayling and landed another three trout between 8-10" before darkness set in. Sadly I only managed to cover about 3/4 of the beat despite fishing for nearly 5 hours. I guess I spent too much time covering each pool. Went home cold but satisfied and will definitely fish this beat again.

Not a great stretch. The video with the birdsong soundtrack somehow fails to capture the noise of the continual traffic on the opposite side. Bankside very steep and overgrown - can only get to the river in a few places, and virtually none of them have a place flat enough for a stool to sit on. Not a great day. Sorry, but I'll go elsewhere next time I'm on the Wye, unless they do something about access to the river.
