The first cold morning of the autumn, the river had come down and was no longer coloured so all in all good conditions for trotting for grayling. Caught 15 grayling in around 3 hours, along with some trout. Most fish were quite small, up to about a pound, until the last trot of the morning when I hooked a very big grayling which managed to shed the hook as I was fumbling for the net. An excellent excuse to come back and give it another go!

Started fishing about 9.00, river up but falling and running fast, slightly coloured. Fished top end of beat, bright sun all day which didn’t help, but ended up with 3 barbel 5lb 8ozs to 8lb 4 ozs and a nice chub. The barbel on pellets and chub on meat, lost 2 barbel to hook pulls and one barbel at the end which snapped the hook length. Although it was hard work we had a nice day in the sun and enjoyed every minute of it .

River was higher and pushing through a lot more than when I was here on Tuesday. Had to step up to a 4oz gripper lead to keep station in the middle of the river. With both the river and weather conditions results were fantastic, catching from the start and throughout the day. Started upstream of the first gate then switched in the afternoon to the bottom field area. ledgered PVA bag/pellet method with either pellets or 12mm boils as hook bait. Bulk of the fish were in the 5 to 6lb range with one gem of 9lb 2ozs.

This was my last trip of the year to the Wye, I've had 3 x 3 day visits this autumn and the fishing as been superb.
Many thanks to WUF for managing the fishing, you do a great job much appreciated. I'll certainly be back to the Wye in the autumn next year.

River very high but dropping so good conditions. There was enough happening to keep us interested on this lovely stretch of the Wye.
