After yesterday's productive day on the Wye, it was surprising on what was a much calmer day that should have been ideal, given all of the fallen leaves, for top of the water fishing, that more success was not had and so few fish showing. Tried duo but had nothing on the nymphs and even drifted a few bugs around likely spots but to no avail. Rose some fish and cast to the very odd riser of which there were surprisingly few. A lovely 16" female fish of about 1.75lb led the way for the out of season trout , and the grayling were of 10-12", and all fish came to HE and olive emergers. Everything came in fives unfortunately, including five most unwelcome canoes, which completely screwed the fishing in Little Glaslyn Pool. Their well-equipped occupants as usual claimed ignorance of access restrictions, one had to get out and portage the canoe over the tail of Glaslyn as the river was down to 0.4m. (so God knows how they'd coped elsewhere), and also claimed not to know that even the upper Wye would not have been accessible either, this early in October, as it was so far below the red lines. Don't think they gave a stuff that I had paid and they hadn't! Not good but unfortunately par for the course. So much for the observation of VAAs.

Another glorious late Autumn day and another day on a low and clear river. Travelling back to our accommodation we were concerned to see that cars were still parked on the venue at 10.00pm on the night before our visit. Either poaching or anglers flouting the 'one hour after dusk' rule. Fears compounded when we were faced with anglers rubbish on the pipe peg, discarded food packaging and drinks cans. So probably poachers! Anyway, the fishing proved very difficult and although we managed 8 barbel bewteen us to 8lb 12oz it was far less productive than on previous visits. Swims well trampled and scattered dropped bait testament to the pressure this stretch now receives. Still a very enjoyable day and the beautiful Wye.

4 anglers on a low and clear river produced some nice fish. 4 doubles in the catch caught on pellet and feeder/straight lead. Great venue with easy access and able to drive down to the river banks but I guess this is weather dependent and could be 4x4 only in wet conditions. The FP booking process is easy and fuss free, overall a great day we will be back.

Another fine day on this massive scenic stretch. We had to search for the fish finding one here and there. Pellet and feeder tackticks doing the job.
Well done to W and U for leaving the place alone.

A strange sort of day. With the river still at low summer level, I thought that it might be difficult. So it proved; up river de bonne heure but, runs that you would put your house on failing to produce (or producing very little). Conscious that the beat was fished yesterday, I wondered if that was the problem (equally conscious that the problem could be the thing on the blunt end of the rod). Nay bother, in turn, two fairly non descript pieces of water just below the weir produced half a dozen Grayling a piece. More or less consecutive casts; mostly fish in the 8-10 inch bracket, but including a couple at 12-14 inches. All on a PTN. No surface activity at this stage but, mid morning, with the sun overhead, spasmodic rises. Switched to a dry; but this only resulted in a run of micro Grayling
Less productive downstream in the afternoon; where, with the river so low, there is not a fat lot to go at
My "other" was a Minnow - caught fair and square on a Size 14 Endrick Spider - and only landed after a titanic struggle
