Surpised to encounter feeding fish after such a run of hot weather, but thanks to Oliver Burch, we did. Water temps stayed low enough, and this fish struck on drys (sedge, adams para, kilnks) as well as wets under the surface. Great spot and so easy to cast here. Salmon parr seem numerous and voracious as 6 were hooked. All fish under 9" and were released.

Fished from around 9am until 11.30am, finding two feisty little hungry trout in the lower half of the beat. Dropped in to the top half under the electric fence and played around in the deeper water, watching two chub patrol around whilst tempting one smallish fish (didn’t see what it was....I suspect a small chub) to a nymph twitched back under the trees. An interesting beat, with the lovely backdrop of the old mill and sound of the water wheel in motion. Delightful!

Tried hard in the faster water on both float and feeder but fish not having it, plenty around showing but not feeding.

More overcast today, but sun kept breaking through at times.
Landed 5 barbel, all around 7lbs but didn't weigh them as wanted to minimise the time spent out of the water and they weren't big enough to warrant weighing anyway. Lost 1 fish.
All returned strongly.
All on pellet feeder.

Slowly worked up the whole beat with a small para adams, eventually landed 6 at 7" to 11", and of course missed or touched several more. The fish still seem in good condition, though the river is very low. Nice day in the hills.

I invariably come away from Craig Llyn thinking I should have caught more than I did. Today was no exception. An enigma, with pools and runs that scream "fish" at you failing to produce. I covered a lot of water today, and used 3 methods - nymph, duo and dry - but only caught spasmodically. Each method equally successful (or should that be unsuccessful?). Most of the fish came from faster, shallow (and, sometimes, very shallow) water. On the plus side, the Grayling were a good size. Conditions were not ideal - ie a low clear river on a bright day - but other Wye beats have produced for me under these conditions. However, other anglers do well here; so perhaps the problem lies with the thing at the thick end of the rod
