Lyepole seldom disappoints. Today was no exception. Away de bone heure on a very low river and a bright hot day. A dozen plus Grayling and a solitary Trout upstream while it was still relatively cool. Less productive downstream afterwards. Mind you, it was pretty hot by then. Also, with the Cottage occupied, as it invariably is at this time of year, with the river so low, there was not a fat lot to go at downstream

No discernible hatch and nothing rising, so everything on spiders. A good stamp of fish, with a couple of 14 inch Grayling and plenty in the 10 to 12 inch bracket. Remarkably, only 1 Trout; or should that be the other way around - with the 20 odd grayling being remarkable?

Arrived in the late afternoon. Considered not going as the weather was very hot and bright. River conditions low and clear. Saw two large salmon dead in the Rapids. Fished half hearted as we knew the fish were already struggling. Due to go to another beat the following day but cut our loses for the sake of the fish.

After much perseverance I caught and landed my first River Wye grayling! I have been told it was using the duo method and was chuffed to bits as for the first time was included when it was mentioned “we” had a good day today! My one fish helpers the bag! Will keep ploughing on and hope to be posting more returns soon! All the gear and finally a bit of idea!

Obviously the river is running very low and clear so would be hard work for an experienced river angler which I'm not! Good day out though, can't wait to come back after a bit of rain ☔ ????

First time fly fishing on a river. 7 trout between 5 and 12 inches all to dry fly—olive and klinkhamer patterns. Really enjoyable day on a lovely beat. Thanks WUF.

Day two of the upper Wye reccie and another very well maintained beat and beautiful location . The benches in the shade on another boiler of a day where very much appreciated today!

A good number of amazing looking runs and pools and could only tempt the one nice grayling off the top today but that was out of a tricky little pot so more than happy with that and it spent a large part of the time airborne when hooked! Amazing , never had that happen before.

Had one very good trout straighten a dry fly hook and I don't use cheap hooks!

Looking very much forward to coming back and parking at the static caravan site is great and it is easy access to river from there , quite fun actually taking the paths through the ferns to see the river open up in front of you.

The Irfon down to its bones. Low, warm water with little flow and little sign of fly life or fish. Managed 2 wbt on a sedge pattern after lots of speculative casting. The second wbt about 9". I know this beat quite well so interesting to get a look at the structure of the river bed, particularly those areas that usually hold fish in higher flows. Never a wasted day, always learning.
