Water 0.78 and rising. Some colour so opted to spin.
John was first to contact a salmon fishing at the stair stage. The fish took a yellow FC but immediately surfaced, rolled and detached.
I changed to a yellow from red FC and hooked and landed a 9lb cock fish from the hole level with the sill above the rock. As the fish was landed another showed in the same spot.
These fish were moving and coincided with high tide 2.5 hours earlier. From then on the water rose throughout the evening. John Phillips accepted my invitation to fish but only contacted a 10 inch trout on the fly. When he left the river was almost .9m
Another successful day!! Up to 5 salmon for the season.

No Joy. Fish seen at the head of the "V" and on the bend at the end of Maddox (big one) but just one knock to show for an afternoon / evenings effort on the fly. Fish were grubby brown things so long term residents, and I suspect the fact I couldn't see bottom when wading to just above the knee meant nothing was going to chase a fly it couldn't see.
Happy way to spend my 50th birthday though

River was in spate about 2 feet higher than previous day etc, due to the rains etc no fish taken in the morning session as pools etc were frothed up and detritus around etc. Lovely morning tho, will return to your wonderful river. Barrie Cooper

Another very nice days fishing on the Wye, river was well up compared to the last few trips we've had, there was a lot of weed coming through but fishable. All fish fell to feeder tactics, and all fish were in very good condition. Was nice to meet Colin who showed his expertise with catching a nice salmon on his 2nd cast!!!!! .... A good day!!!!

We fished through the day with a long break for lunch. No real sport before around 7 pm. Very sporadic rises in the morning and managed a single trout on a black penned fished upstream. The evening was fast and exciting with fish freely rising in faster broken water. No rising fish in slower water. GandH sedge lethal fished upstream through faster runs. Largest fish to around 1.5 lbs. Grayling equally active. Might have well started fishing at around 7 pm but this is the most beautiful river to spend time on always holding new surprises.

6 Trout, 2 Grayling
