Only fished the afternoon. Nice height, water colour and overhead conditions but cooler and downstream wind made presentation difficult. No rise to speak of though pale wateries and stone flies about. Stuck to French leader but struggled to get takes. Biggest grayling 39cms. Two otters seen at close range. Watched one shoot the fast water by the island. The other swam to within 10 metres of me before diving and swimming past submerged. Two stand of Japanese knotweed on the island. Stayed dry, unlike my first visit; glad I made that wading staff.

Beat:Middle Senni
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Having seen from the Natural Resources website that the Senni had had a rise in level after the recent rain, I thought I would take the long drive in the hope that the river would be refreshed. It was indeed flowing well, and very clear. Quite an assortment of flies hatching as well, so I was quite hopeful. However, despite various tactics could only land one at 10" on a tiny midge. Bit frustrating as the river looks very 'trouty', especially the lovely runs and pools on the bottom stretch up to the bridge.
Will try again. Did see Herons and Kingfishers which is always nice.

River just fishable at 1ft, but no salmon seen or encountered. 3 trout to 13" and a grayling of 14" suggested I would have been better off targeting them. Quite a few repairs are needed on the beat, including a dodgy stile and, particularly, the upper planks, which are now jutting at a crazy angle above the water.

River up and falling looked perfect, unfortunately large amount of weed coming down made it impossible to keep bottom

The river levels had risen slightly over night and and conditions looked perfect. We caught fish steadily throughout the day on standard feeder and pellet tactics, canoe traffic was virtually non existent. Excellent days fishing in beautiful surroundings. Welcome addition to the WAU portfolio.

First time fishing the Wye, in fact first time fishing a large river... I normally frequent much smaller West Country affairs. The river gauge showed a fairly decent jump 24 hrs before so not knowing how quickly it would drop or how coloured I made a last minute booking the night before on the Edw as a back up.
Arrived to find the river in perfect condition. Picked up a stunning 2lb grayling on my fifth cast, then 2 slightly smaller grayling and a trout over the next 2 hrs. I’d arrived with the intention of developing long tightline techniques on a large river.
It was certainly different to my usual fishing, and took a lot more concentration to stay safe and in control. At lunchtime I decided to head to the Edw as see what that was like.
A great morning on the Wye, next time I’ll spend the full day... felt like I was getting in to the swing of it.
I only fished a fairly shortish stretch of the lower section of the beat, so plenty more to explore.... another great session provided by WUF... cheers

Having spent the morning on the Wye I had headed up to the Edw for the afternoon. A beautiful beat, which would have a real variety with a bit more water. A real healthy stock of fish... loads in the 6-9” range but even with the low water I spotted a good number in the 10-12” range.
The smaller fish were very obliging and I caught 19, all on the dry (or 20... a bit of confusion at the end of the day!) but their larger friends didn’t play ball, they were either stubbornly doggo on the stream bed, showing no interest at all or they spotted me just before I spotted them.
A great couple of hours though, as the water was so low I scooted up sections but early season with more water the beat would have a huge amount of fishing with so much structure to investigate... i’ll definitely head back. Thanks WUF.... another great day.

It was quite a surprise to find the level up slightly and increased pace from the previous day but the amount of weed made fishing extremely difficult for the first couple of hours. A rethink and change of approach greatly reduced the problem the weed had been causing and resulted in a great days fishing for both of us. Best barbel was 8.13 and chub was 4.13. Our usual feeder tactics and varying the bait was the method used.
