Just a quick morning session. Light on bites from 1 swim. Moved and had lots of little chub bites then just before I left hooked a 6LB Barbel. Great looking fish that fought really well. Fish the inside bank with the fast water right of the tree line on the map. Lovely spot with a bit more water than a previous visit. Back there again next week to explore some more swims.

Fairly slow to start with, probably due to warm and sunny weather. Things picked up late in the day and the Barbel switched on, best fish today 9 lbs 13 oz. Hoping to return to this beat in the future.

River low but rose 2 inches on the day. First time on the Wye. Scenery was magnificent and the beat well organised. Even with a low flow the fly runs were interesting and abundant. Saw a few fish show but none were tempted . Fishing counterpart hooked a large barbel but wouldn’t lend me his ‘luncheon meat fly!’ Thanks to ghillie Joe for freely imparting his considerable knowledge and being great company on the river. Can’t wait to return in more optimal conditions.

The barbel were feeding better than the previous day. The best barbel was 9.09 and the chub were a good average size to 4.04. Our usual feeder tactics using various baits accounted for all the fish.
