Beat:Wye, GPAIAC Builth Wells
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Following yesterday's trip to Ty Newydd, I decided to visit the GPAIAC waters at Builth. Fished on what was a mainly sunny but quite windy day (downstream thankfully) from 10.30 until 5 pm. Water still 15 degrees and, with 1.04m on the Builth guage, plenty of water to go for. Unlike yesterday, there was a bit more fly and a few more more rising fish throughout the day with one major, though quite brief, rise halfway through the afternoon when the water was alive with fish - no fly coming off though. Apart from a couple of fish taken early on whilst Czech nymphing, all of the other fish were taken on a small size 20 pale HE emerger. Though some of the fish caught were risers, as yesterday the majority were fish which weren't and they simple came up and sucked it in! Whilst maybe a little over half of the fish caught were in the 8-10 inch year-class, today's catch featured fish of 11, 12, 13 and 14 inches, as per the attached photo. The only bad news on the day was the sight of two cormorants. A wonderful day's fishing for sure.

S had the best day 10 barbel to 8lbs and a chub of 4.8lbs. As with most of the beats low and clear conditions made fishing difficult. Please be aware but dispite the last field being used for camping all summer the local farmer takes a dim view of walking 70 yards from the river bank to access the road with our tackle. As the two anglers were 67 years old it seems the farmers attitude to walking in and out the gate was a little extreme.
Booking Office Note : Landowners have every right to take a dim view if access instructions are being ignored. Fisheries can be (and have been) withdrawn from the Passport scheme when anglers have not adhered to the instructions given. This is something WUF and anglers want to avoid.
There are fisheries where riverside parking is allowed and some where vehicles can be driven the length of the beat. Anglers are advised to call the Booking Office for advice.
