A good days fishing with the fish taking the fly most of the day. Fishing from 10:00 to 17:00, with a break for lunch. Weather cold and grey but mostly dry and river running well. Accidentally Caught one One Out of season trout and 23 Graylings of various sizes with 4 fish over 13 inches, the largest being 17 inches.

Second time I’ve visited this beat, the first time I was disappointed as the beat map shows access all the way down one bank almost all the way back to Newbridge-on-Wye however this isn’t the case as the path ends at a house a short way into the woods and accessing the river is almost impossible.
This time I crossed the footbridge and found the river much more accessible. Today though the river was very powerful after recent rain and still carrying a little colour, wading was quite difficult and finding feeding fish even more so. I eventually found a few fish rising very intermittently in a slack behind a fallen tree, I managed to rise one to a dry fly, which frustratingly I missed, this turned out to be the only chance I was to get. The wind started to get quite wild blowing leaves into the river by the thousand so gave up and went for a warm and a pint instead.

Barbel from the woods and chub and eel from the meadow. Moved around to try to find the fish but struggled using feeder/pellets/paste. Eel came to luncheon meat.

Fantastic day on a beautiful stretch, We caught 10 Barbel and 12 chub between 3 of us.
All fish came on pellets.
Biggest Barbel was 9lb 1oz, all cub were averaging 21/2 to 3lb. We also caught lots of Dace on the stick float with maggots, there are loads of Dace in the Wye at present which is a great sign for the future, some are the herring type but most are a couple of ounces. In a couple of seasons they should be a decent size.

10 Barbel, 12 Chub
