River conditions not ideal, but great beat with interesting swims. Just one eel caught. Thunderstorm and torrential rain put paid to the evening session.

River at a very low level. The margins of some of the gravel banks are starting to become covered in silkweed. Took an enforced 2 hour car break in the afternoon as a heavy thunderstom passed over. Two of the chub were only small. Legered meat and pellets the method.

Unfortunately this stretch was really suffering from the low rainfall this summer. Thousands of fry and minnows but the only sizable fish I saw were in the few heavily wooded areas.
With another few feet of water in it I'm am sure this would be a peach. I fished from the opposite end moving upstream towards the Severn Arms. Some walking involved and some scrapping with undergrowth but it's all part of the experience!

A challenging day, dropped several on dries, takes not very consistant just splashing at the fly. Changed to French leader wanting the bug hard on the bottom which resulted in all the fish coming to the nymph. Fly of choice: green tailed cased caddis on 3.5ml tungston - single fly out fished two and three fly set-ups. Takes more confident on the single fly.

Haven't fished for four weeks so decided to check out the ladies at Builth. Overcast, relatively still and a "cool" 19 degrees for a change. Fished for a few hours from midday. No fly, and no rises until about 15 minutes before the rain (rain?
what's that?!) drove me off at not long before 4 p.m., when a few upwings and sedges appeared, plus one or two rising fish. Prior to that I tried duo and bugs, and with non-rising fish coming up for a HE emerger, I decided just to fish it alone. As usual at this time of year, on a size 18, it did what it does and I had grayling from 8- 14" and missed (some coming short) or jagged at least as many more. Plus a couple of small trout, and trout and salmon parr. The water at Builth was a reasonably fish-friendly 17 degrees as it was when I checked the Llynfi on the way home. In contrast, the Wye at Bredwardine was 23 degrees as it had been earlier in the week. What a difference a few miles of exposure to heat can do!
Barbel fishermen beware!!!!!!

A lovely stretch in a great setting and loads of river if you are prepared to walk a bit from the car park which is at the upper end of the beat. Less active anglers have a number of established swims within a couple of hundred yards of the car park. This visit coincided with a long heatwave and very low conditions plus akgae/blanket weed making fishing hard. Not criticising or moaning as we have no choice but to deal with the river how it is. We decided not to fish until early evening and we had just 2 proper bites between us resulting in 2 barbel. In circumstances, we were happy with this out come and both fish were returned safely after a long rest in the net. We will return to this stretch as there is plenty of room for 4 anglers on this venue.

Over cast and warm on this wonderful beat. My first time here. Worked the lovely glides and flats about 500m up stream of the bridge. I x 10” WBT. Tried a dry both rusty Klinkhammer and pale yellow watery. Must have had 5 or 6 connections but landed nothing. A great day despite failing to land my bites.
Note to Booking Office. I met Peter who works at the post office. Had a coffee in their lovey cafe before I started. He was charming but mentioned that fishermen are using the post office car park at the rear. It’s a small tight car park so they would rather fisherman parked on the road about 10 M down from the post off rice. I said I would pass this info on to you.

The overcast and cooler weather got the fish in a feeding mood. A Life jacket deer hair caddis with a 2.5mm silver bead french nymph duo setup, fished short on a long leader worked a treat. Covering fast broken water the lightening fast hits resulted in good hook ups with this contact method. Most of the fish were of a good average size of 8" - 10" with the largest Trout at 16" and the Grayling at 15", the other was a nice sized Dace. The cork on the new rod I was using for the first time now smells like it should do.
