2 x trout 13 inches and 16 inches, Parachute Adams. A couple of hours on a wet and cloudy morning on one of the Kemeys pools. A few olive uprights were coming off and at least the occasional decent fish was rising. However, although the river was still low, there was a distinctly blackish colour to the water which increased steadily mid-morning, presumably due to the effect of showers upstream - visibility about 2 feet and reducing. Packed up midday as it came on to rain hard..

There is a sign at what appears to be an old car park warning you not to proceed by vehicle - so I left my car there - only to find the actual car park is further round - no other signs so very confusing. The end of beat yellow topped post remained a mystery - couldn't find it. There appear to be old signs around - not particularly helpful. Overall, could be a lot better marked/signposted.

Turned up at Llyn Bugeilyn midafternoon , with the assumption that it may be pretty squally weather , and was greeted with low clouds slight drizzle and a far old wind coming from the South-West !!!!!! Not perturbed I headed down to the westerly shore at the top end , knowing on previous visits that it fishes well with a good warm wind , which is exactly what it was . Occasionally it would eddy round the mountains , and would drop to a pleasant breeze !!!! I initially fished a team of two , my own variant of a Peter Ross , and a Bibio pattern , and had two strong little fiesty brownies after only ten minutes !! Moving slightly further down , but aware that it becomes veeeeeeery boggy round by the culvert I changed my point fly for my version of a bloody butcher , all in very small sizes , again some good hits , and just in the waves too , five brownies brought to hand , some fabulous sport , and as usual they really pinch above their weight !!!! Again , just to see what they favoured I switched round the point and dropper fly , Peter Ross on the point , bloody butcher on the dropper , and they must have preferred the bloody butcher , as had another three hard hits , very confident at the dropper fly , some quickly photographed and admired , then quickly slipped back into their peaty domain !!!! Sport was pretty great all into the evening , and had another six perfectly formed black finned beauties , and countless plucks on the fly , not fished deep at all , and perhaps only a foot or two under the rolling waves !!!! Was a real "red letter day " here , and as usual , packed up ,very content and made it worthwhile venturing out on a not so Summery day , but worth remembering that this is just what the brownies of Bugeilyn like , wild weather !!!!! As I always say , I shall sojourn to this peaceful haven again very very soon , and I thank you Llyn Bugeilyn for another fantastic day . . . . .

Another interesting paragraph , out of the book written by John Henry Cliffe, "NOTES AND RECOLLECTIONS OF AN ANGLER : RAMBLES AMONG THE MOUNTAINS, VALLEYS , AND SOLITUDES OF WALES. ( 1870 )
. . . . . . . . . Fifty years ago there were no trout in Bugeilyn, but millions of horse leeches, The pool was originally stocked with trout from the Rheidol by two gentlemen who happened to be grouse shooting in the proximity to the pool. For some years a war of extermination was carried on between the leeches and the trout; the latter , however , proved victorious , and no leeches are now to be found . The lake is preserved by Mr. Jones , of Garthmill Hall , Montgomeryshire .

The "red letter day " I had in Monday 15 May , just a few pics of some of the beautiful black finned brown trout , salmo nigrippinis at her best , and with sixteen beauties brought to hand , had a thoroughly enjoyable day . . . Back soon , cheers Llyn Buguilyn. . . . . . . . . .

Cloudy overcast day, intermittent drizzle. River had a slight colouring but generally clear. Fish rising to a generous hatch of March Browns? Caught one, very small - but excellent colour and condition, brown trout on a Pearl Diawl Bach.
Probably should have caught more - need to tighten up on my methodology. A most enjoyable day in great company on a fantastic stretch of the River Monnow.
