River high (grass around 1’6” underwater in places), Lovely sunny day, 21’C, nothing seen at surface. Tried swinging downstream and upstream nymphing as it was bright. 7” fish came off after breaking the surface... no other encounters.

Very few rising fish. A few March Browns and LD Olives and substantial numbers of stoneflies on the water. Most successful fly was a Stimulator mimicking the stoneflies.

Great to be back on the Usk, tough day with the river rising from 11am to unfishable by 2pm
3 trout hooked and landed by Frank Jones at the top of the beat, NZ style I think, I had one fish hooked at lost in pocket water on upstream nymph and one fish missed in March brown hatch on dry fly around 11.30
