Another new beat for us and no problems with directions and where to park which were clearly marked and easy to find. A beautiful stretch of water and we shared the field with some timid grazing sheep which is always preferable to cattle.
Despite the river being in reasonable shape the fishing was slow but compensated by just being on the bank and enjoying the spectacular sight of a Jay swooping against the backdrop of the dark trees on the opposite side.
We only managed to catch one trout float fishing in the faster water but the last hour sprung into life on the usual feeder tactics. Some good fish were caught the best of which was a cracking Chub just under 6lb and a Barbel weighing 8lb 4oz. All the fish were immaculate and we thank the owner and the WUF for another memorable day on the Wye.

Beat:Ty Newydd

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Despite a forecast of heavy rain in the morning, bright sunshine turned up. Plenty of fish caught in the bottom end of the beat, but as per our last visit, the average size was akin to a sardine.

Oh my, oh my!... disaster! I made my way to this beat and was very impressed at what I saw: riffles, glides, gutters pools, one grayling to hand in first 10 minutes of 16 inches. Then I noticed the water colouring very fast and huge amount of debris. I walked the length of the beat and what looked like very fishy water was engulfed by a raging torrent and that was that. This is great grayling water, sadly far to dangerous to enter the water when you have never fished it before.

Another beautiful stretch of the Wye with great views from the bridge. The river was very clear and low again when I arrived and I couldn't see any fish at all, not even small fish, so I knew I had my work cut out. Tried lots of different baits but just couldn't get a single bite all day. The fishing has been hard on the Wye these last few days, lots of anglers having the same problem. This was my first ever blank on the Wye so I was quite shocked but that's fishing. I always enjoy being here, it's such a great place. Looking forward to next spring!

Area:Reservoirs

Beat:Talybont Reservoir

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished Tal-y-bont reservoir on October 16th to end the Stillwater trout season. 5 brownies were landed in a late afternoon session of a few hours at the top end, all on floating line, 20 foot long leader and red-head tadpole fly. Best fish was a magnificent 17 ½ inch cock fish, with the rest being 12 -13 inches. All returned to grow bigger for next season!
