Not much fly life about, despite being the hottest day of the year so far. Only 1 fish seen. Took 2 on weighted PTN. Loads of kingfishers, also dippers, nuthatch and treecreepers seen.

Balmy spring day on a scenic stretch of the Usk. Bright sun and very clear water proved challenging but 2 nice fish of 11 & 13 inches from one of the long riffles on a beaded diawl bach. Very few olives trickled off during the day but no surface activity.

Glorious weather - 23 C - which we shared with 300 'Fun Riders', who were raising money for the local hunt and a number of canoeists. Everybody was extremely courteous and chatty! Large hatches of fly during the day, but nothing rising to them.
Apart from one 3 lbs chub, we did not see or touch a fish. There was a slight bit of colour in the water, which helped to mitigate the blazing sun to some extent. 2' 6" on the gauge. A lovely piece of water to fish - we all returned home with a nice tan!

5 trout caught and released over the course of the day on dry fly. A beautiful hot day with a trickle of surface activity, mainly olives, throughout the afternoon.

This was my first time at the Rectory beat. What a stunner it is too.... I stayed at the top and fished for both trout and salmon, and saw none of either.... There were lots of flies about and a few small parr rising but I hooked nothing bigger than a small grayling. I am looking forward to being here again and investigating further.

An absolutely stunning spring day on this beautiful beat, started cold and misty but the sun soon came out and it was a glorious, cloudless and warm day from start to finish.
Had a mad ten minutes in Craig Llyn pool with a Wooly Bugger while it was cold and misty and hooked a big fish which came off! Then my friend and I walked the length of the beat, by the time we reached the downstream limit the mist had gone and we spotted a good shoal of chub in the slower water.
By mid morning a steady hatch started with a number of different insects came off throughout the day, I also found a huge stone fly sunning itself on a rock mid river, however we didn't see a single fish rise all morning along the whole beat.
I refused to resort to nymphing on such a day so was relieved to hear my friend had taken a very big grayling on a dry fly when I caught up with him.
After lunch we found one or two rising fish leaving only the smallest disturbance on the surface in the deeper pools, eventually I managed 3 o/o/s Grayling on dries which was really very enjoyable in such weather and in such beautiful surroundings.
A great day despite the lack of trout.

Fishing started really quietly but soon picked up, it was a very hot day and the reservoir was like a pond, not ideal but it was a lovely day out.

X4 Rainbow trout were caught, although relatively small.

The pot holes on the road are horrendous, you could fit a bus down some of them! At least put some concrete in them.

Fished on this lovely beat between 2-6pm. Only saw two fish in the water (grayling). Very bright day so quite difficult with shadows. River flow was faster than anticipated. Used various small imitations on a 5/6 FL 7ft rod. I'm new to river fishing so didn't expect to catch but will do more reading/ research and return. Never seen so many red kites!
