MB (North Shields) and TP (Suffolk) had our traditional October day at Ty Newydd. TP fished Nymphs in predominately faster water and had a really good day catching 12 Grayling and 5 oos Brown Trout. The best of the Grayling were around 11/2lb. MB spent most of the day fishing dry fly. Very few fish were rising but rose a few to the dry fly. Had 8 Grayling between 8 & 11" from two runs plus 1 oos Brown Trout on the dry. Also had a small Grayling late on to a small gold head. In hindsight should have spent the last couple of hours fishing spiders and/or nymphs as had a few takes in last 20 mins or so fishing this style. This year nymphs beat the dry fly!!

Very poor day on the river, no Chub, no Barbel, not a touch all day, friends fishing below Hereford experienced the same, maybe the cold snap & low water has put the fish off for a while, next time!!!

Fished on the bottom with different baits, tried halibut pellets, sweetcorn, luncheon meat. Caught nothing. It was a bright clear day, river was low. Enjoyed the scenery.I will come back when it gets warmer. The only thing I didn't like was going on the website finding it cost £20 a day, which was fine. Only to find a £2.50 booking fee!. I would rather them say it cost £22.50 at the start.
(WUF note: the booking fee covers any number of bookings if made on the same day, and also covers the cost of credit cards and staff)

Anyone else ever caught a 12lb Salmon on stick float and bread? Frightened the life out of me when it leaped clear of the water when I hooked it ???? Lovely days fishing, barbel on pellet, chub on bread/stick and a couple on pellet.

Fished downstream of the iron steps. The river was low and clear. Lost two barbel on the rocks plus plenty of tackle. Mainly small chub with two decent fish amongst them, all caught on maggot feeder.

This was my attempt to catch my very first grayling. There were a few olives in the air around lunchtime, and a few fish rising in 2 pools upstream of the bridge and in the straight section further up. I had a few rises to my Adams but sadly either missed on the strike or they came off. So I blanked. Weather was pleasant, with just a little rain. Anyway, really nice place. Wading was fine but I felt a bit creaky climbing over the stiles (age, I'm afraid). Thanks to WUF for making this possible.
