Thank you to the Wye & Usk for a great day. A little bright and sunny but the water looked just perfect. Unfortunately no sign of any Salmon. Caught about a dozen trout on anything from Salmon flies and spinners to klinkhammers and nymphs.

All fish caught on a nymph suspended under a Klinkhammer. Lost another 6 or 7. Quite quiet fishing wise, I think the very bright sunlight shining through the trees with very little cover didn't help. Overall amount of debris in the stream has reduced considerably since I fished this stream last year.
I always enjoy fishing this stream.

What a beautiful day. It was like mid- summer. I haven't fished this beat before but I can understand why it is seems to be so many people's favourite. It has gone to the top of my list of wild stream beats. The water was at a perfect height and for those of us who are no longer young, the wading is quite easy: at this time of year, the casting is not difficult either. I could easily cover the river. Another plus point is that access is extremely well provided: there are plenty of entry points in the fencing. It is a really well presented beat. Thanks to the owner of the land and the wye and usk. As to the fishing- I thought it might be a little early for this beat and although there were flies coming off the water, I saw no rises. My new year's resolution is to learn to use the nymph as I tend to stick to the dry fly. So, I fished from 12 - 3 and had two nice trout, 8/11 inches on a bead head pheasant tail.
One small query for the Wye and Usk - the new website is great and easily accessible so congratulations on that. This beat shows as a bookable wild stream best when you find the the Upper Wye section. However, and I have checked several times, does not appear to show when you go to the available wild stream section. Entirely possible that I am doing something wrong, but I just though I would pass this on.

All trout took dropper aqua baetis size 16 jig with 3mm tungsten bead not a touch on the point size 18 2mm hares ear. average size was twelve inches with one at 13 and one at 15 inches. oh and one at four inches lol. All bar two came from the streamy water around and above the island to french nymphing .. sadly for me the rest of the beat two thirds of it was not to my liking more suited for the salmon fishing. very pricey for the trout fishing. No salmon seen, a little to early for the Usk

Blank I'm afraid, except for accidental trout. Another cold start with what felt like a heatwave in the afternoon.

Bright sunny day, not a cloud in the sky and the water was lovely and clear, reading 11C. Lots of olives coming off the water from mid-morning until late afternoon and a good March Brown hatch twenty minutes either side of noon, but no trout rising to them. Found one fish rising later in the afternoon and covered it with a CDC olive which it took and spat out, the feel of the hook obviously put it off and there were no more rises.
With all the fly life and balmy sunshine we were tempted to use dries for a while, but with nothing happening we switched to nymphs, going through plenty of colour, size and weight combinations. Two trout of around 9" and one about 5" resulted, all returned. Hard work, but neither of us are accomplished nymphers - I suspect someone who knows what they're doing with a czech nymphing rig would have done much better in the pocket water.
Lovely surroundings and the estate pub does very good bacon sandwiches.

Like yesterday, a very hot day. The river had dropped overnight so wading was a little more comfortable. I hooked a small fish on a Post Tosh tube fly on the Gabions after lunch but it was probably a small sea trout or brownie which was not on the hook for very long. I saw a similar sized fish jump clear of the water in the same spot shortly after. Other than that, I did not see a fish all day!
