Excellent Fishery with a fantastic head of wild fish, plenty of fish on French leader and beaded nymphs,and a good amout of Grayling sighted rising and cast to with a Dry.
The trout ranged from 4" to 12".
The Grayling all seemed to be 8,9,10",
Two fish in the 12"+ bracket.
The numbers are roundabout, I lost track of the Grayling tally but the Trout numbers are correct I think.
Excellent day again on the Lugg.

Lots of small barbel around 1-3lb but you have to be ready for the odd lump hanging around, always a pleasure to fish the Wye, such a beautiful river

20 Barbel, 5 Chub

A slightly overcast day, but cooler than the previous weekend. The river was fairly low and clear so I decided to opt for a single handed 7 weight rod and smaller fly sizes, which meant dipping into the sea trout box. I saw two fish, which I believe to have been Salmon, moving in the lower pool. I was unable to tempt them with anything, but did catch two Chub of about 1lb each on Invicta and Teal Blue and Silver patterns from the same pool.
Since I was here about a month ago fishing the Foy Fishery beat the left bank access has been cleared and it is now much easier to find the access points to the river.
NB for WUF - I noted a few stands of Himalayan Balsam coming into flower at either end of the bridge.

2 Chub

My first visit to this beat. So 2pm - 7pm mostly spent exploring, since the OS map indicated some quite steep slopes adjacent, and a rather complicated water course. Much better weather than of late and quite fair conditions; though, as anticipated, poor water flow and summer vegetation at its height. The topography turned out to be as difficult to read at ground level as it is on the map, and I only covered the double bank portion of the water available.
Plenty of rising fish (small), to a surprisingly large dark olive. They were not shy, and less easily spooked than their relatives in the Monnow catchment, perhaps since the water carries a slight tinge. I rose half a dozen but they came short ( or I did!). So it was a blank - yet a most enjoyable one. Had I stayed longer, or fished harder, I am reasonably confident a couple might have come to hand. However actually catching fish seems to matter less to me than used to be the case.

A great few hours this evening in one of our favourite wood swims. Wasn't expecting the fishing to be very good with the river still running very low and clear, but we were very pleasantly surprised to find the barbel lining up for our halibut pellets. Quality fish of between 5lb and 8lb were joined by a single mini barbel of no more than 1lb and one very special fish, my dads first Wye double at 10lb 3oz. A much deserved reward for the many years spent fishing this beat taking barbel to an agonisingly close 9lb 15oz along the way. All fish in top condition as always. Great beat! Back in a few weeks.

11 Barbel

I fished the upper stretch from upstream of the fishing hut. Water level very low but enough water in the pools to make me wish that I had worn chest waders rather than thigh waders. Saw a lot of very small fingerling trout as well as a couple of slightly larger fish. Used a deer hair sedge pattern dry fly but I wasn't skillful enough to hook anything although I had a few 'takes'. A 6 ft 2 weight rod seemed a perfect match for the scale of the stream and its obstructions. The stream clearance I took part in last winter has made the beat more fishable but I'd advise taking along some secateurs because brambles have grown out from the bank and these tend to snag you whilst attempting to move stealthily close to the bank. Bracken has grown exuberantly on the riverside and the surrounds which makes walking and locating the various stiles a challenge. I was disappointed to discover that the owner of Glynmeddig appears to have erased the begining of the footpath from Glynmeddig to Pentrefelin. I have emailed Powys Rights of Way to express my concern.

14 Barbel, 18 Chub

River was very low and clear. Down stream of the woods heavy weed on the near bank would have made landing any decent fish very difficult, so we stuck to the upper section.
Conditions were against us, but we managed 8 Chub to 4.4 a d 5 Barbel to 7.00.
Banks were steep and overgrown, so wouldn't recommend to the less sprightly, but we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
All fish caught on 10mm boilies, small pellets and feeder rigs.

8 Barbel, 5 Chub

River was low with reduced flow to what we'd previously been used to. The fishing proved to be quite hard with the late afternoon/evening proving to be the most productive period. The best barbel was 8.14. Feeder with various baits was the method used.

We started fishing at 10.15am and neither of us had a touch until 7pm apart from one eel. It switched on about 7pm and we had a busy three hours.
