A hot and sunny day so fishing in the lower wooded section seemed sensible. Finding a snag free part of the swim was important but once accomplished a few fish seemed willing to feed. TS moved to the meadow in mid afternoon and found some fish feeding from5 pm onwards.
Swimfeeder with pellets or boilies as meat baits were soon devoured by the hordes of small Eels. Best Barbel of the day weighed 9lb6oz & 9lb3oz.
Very impressed with the swim clearance work in the meadow. Wildlife event of the day was seeing a kingfisher escape the clutches of a sparrowhawk in mid river and still fly off with a tiny fish in its mouth.

River still very murky and levels too high to allow wading with limited areas for fishing a fly from bank possible.

The white gate referred to in the fishery details no longer exists and the track down to the river was completely overgrown with brambles. The riverbed was predominantly boulders and not gravel (as referred to in the fishery details), so the access to the river, for two older anglers, was both difficult and quite dangerous.

A frustrating session on one of our favourite beats which ended much better than it started!! We took the long walk to the river after a leisurely morning at yat rock watching the peregrines. Setting up in our usual area we found the fish but lost more fish off and also more gear than the fish we landed.
We stuck in the area as we knew there were fish there but after losing a lot of end tackle and fish to weed beds and rocks the swim went dead.
We put out some more bait and after one chub of around 5lb on freelined meat the swim was still dead. One of us moved and had 3 fish in 10mins.
After a frustrating start we ended with some nice barbel, the biggest going 8lb at least. Beautiful setting and the walk back was much easier due to all the leads lost!!!

Strong currents and deepish. Blank day. 4 or 5 cormorants flying around, water clear. A few fish rising near the lodge.

Great day we all caught I banked 13 barbel from one swim at the lower end of the fishery but another 8 fish slipped the hook. My fishing partners had 14 fish from then top end all fish in the 6- 8lb range with one very large double all to a variety of pellets

Fished Upper Glangwy and the Rock from 7am without success. Returned to the river at 5pm with no takes on the Rectory neck but the flow was so positive I headed for the Bridge pool. A resounding take about 4-6 casts down from the top and on the inside of the flow eventually revealed a lovely, slightly coloured and spirited cock fish of circa 13lbs. This took me slightly by surprise as all previous takes have been from lies closer to the big rocks further down the pool. A great result also for my first tying of a #12 Park Shrimp though what started as a rather 'bouffant' version now looks slightly chewed up.

Excellent days sport on the most user friendly stretch as you can access all the bank. Before going into detail I must stress how difficult it is to get into this fishery . The gate onto the main road is difficult to negotiate without a partner. Then you may have as we did 2 combination padlocks to get through on the road gate and the inner field gate. The locks are very stiff and we spent ages fiddling with them. Remember that you do not line up the numbers in the middle of the 'window' you will find the line above that. Once inside the field the drive down to the salmon hut is fine - if dry. I would not do the walk if I could not use the car - so maybe not one to gamble with in winter.
Had to move swims to find the fish but located a few at the bottom end but in less obvious swims. We caught 8 barbel to 8lb plus but 3 of the barbel were 1lb or less - good sign for the future. Also 6 chub to 4lb and 1 dace! Mostly pellets on feeder, some on meat. The dace took an 8mm pellet!
Quite a few salmon showing.

My first visit to the Wye and it certainly didn't disappoint! River quite coloured and pacy. All fish came from two rod lengths out from the first accessible swim. Used Krill flavour throughout my ground bait to my hook bait - a grateful nod towards Martin Bowler - thank you.
