Temperature peaked at 28 degrees, with a very strong wind, not my first choice for fly fishing conditions! Fish could be found rising at some shallow pool tails, and in the faster broken water of 'run ins'. We persevered, and lost many fish, as they slashed at the fly in the fast flow, not always getting a good hook hold. We managed three for the day, with one of 1.75lbs. and two of a pound; not a spectacular result', but an enjoyable day.

Arrived at 8 and it was very, very hot! Water level very low but that still means plenty of water on this beat. Fished the long tail towards the bottom of the beat where it sweeps over towards the far bank under the trees and shade. Fished a nymph under a Klink , not takers for the Klink , 2 trout around 10 oz one handsome Grayling about a pound. Various things hatching during the day , no fish showing any interested in them. Sweated my way back up the river for no result, finished up around 2. Probably a good day for an evening rise .
Stopped for a pint at the Griffin to find it all boarded up !

Very difficult conditions. Bright sunshine, no cloud cover and very low water made for a very difficult day.
Mayfly hatch was incredible at around 11.30 hrs but fish appeared uninterested. This beat needs water and I would return in the right conditions.

Lovely beat, as ever. Water was low and 17C. Given the expected heat, I started at 0600 - but that already felt late as the air temperature was 13C and fish were rising regularly as I arrived. I had three wbt up to about 9" before 0700 then it went quiet. I plugged on until 1000 when one came out of nowhere and took my dry but then called it quits as the heat was becoming stifling. Three fish on the dry (cdc pale watery) and one on the nymph (red tag hares ear).

What a stunning beat. The walk in and out is a little challenging in places with a rod and heavy wading boots, but it's certainly worth it - scrambling over boulders and fallen trees from waterfall to waterfall is a real pleasure.
I came in the evening, around 1900, having fished the Lynfi shortly after dawn and spending the rest of the day shading myself from the heat. The water was pretty low and warm (17C) and gin clear. I saw fish rising in the first pool I approached and had a cdc olive snaffled on my first cast. A short struggle and he came off, leaving the pool devoid of life. As I made my way upstream it was apparent that nearly every pool had fish feeding, but the approach was extremely difficult. Down on hands and knees I still ended up spooking the tiny fish in the tail of each pool (often feeding in only 6" of water) which then set off a chain reaction and I watched bow waves of larger fish further up rushing for safety. Eventually, about half-way along, I came to an unwooded section that allowed me to cast into the pool from about 10 yards back, letting most of my line fall on the rocks but the fly in the feeding channel. A lovely 11" wbt obliged by taking my pale evening dun and I promptly declared victory, heading back out of the gorge before it got dark.
I'd love to fish here again when the water is a little higher and, ideally, with a touch of colour to help mask my clumsy approach.

4 trout 3 shad all taken on mayfly, fished whitney toll beat, and beats 1,3,4,5, whitney court, for salmon and trout, salmon showing in every beat. good mayfly hatch above toll bridge, very shallow water slightly coloured, plenty of salmon running at dusk through shallows just upstream of the toll bridge every night during our stay, some good sized fish amongst them, some coloured, some still bright, although we saw a good amount of fish, we fished hard on the fly , for salmon and trout, only one salmon hooked just below toll bridge and lost after a minute or so tussle, but a very enjoyable stay at Graham and maggies on the toll site, and a very warm welcome from the whitney court syndicate who are doing a brilliant job, working on making the beats a real pleasure to be on,
