Very little water. 4 trout between 8-10 inches - very hot, tough going. Still a joy to see the Kingfisher and Dippers.

First time on this beat, arrived mid morning in glorious sunshine, river low but fish topping all over taking a variety of insects. Started at the downstream limit and soon caught a trout of around 12 inches, I then spent the next hour and a half targeting a single trout I'd spotted rising repeatedly mid river, obviously a good sized fish judging by its slow rises, just breaking the surface before showing its dorsal fin and then a quick flick of the tail. I covered this fish a hundred times, changing flies over and over trying to find something it's take, when finally it came up, took my fly and...I missed it! I didn't swear much, honestly.
By now it was much too hot, my arms were burning and the fish had stopped rising so I packed up around lunchtime and had a break 'till gone 4pm. I then took a further 4 fish on dries before calling it a day.
A nice beat, easy wading, plenty of fish but not as wild or remote feeling as other Usk beats.

Water low and the sun high, but there were plenty of trout moving, easy to spot in the shallow water. They were taking too in the more rippled areas, particularly in the evening, though I didn't manage to contact any of the better fish. Small PT nymphs and the like worked well. I saw two or three sizable fish with fungus growth on their heads, one looking very sick - should we be worried?

Hot hot day to tackle the canyon, river low and crystal clear. Apart from clouds of gnats, midge etc not much hatching and very few rises, so I prospected with a small grey baetis and late in the day a larger light olive para. Could not find a way of avoiding the small trout at the pool tails from shooting off and warning the others. Managed to get interest from the fast heads of pools but they were very wary so only landed 4, though good sized 10 and 11" for this river. Fighting fit. The two largest came to the large olive, obviously they thought it worth the effort.
2 of the major log jams have largely cleared, replaced by 2 new ones! For those who have not fished the Clettwr, I attach photos of these jams - you can get past, with some effort - personally I would not want this changed, and only if it was impossible to move upriver without some clearance. A true wild stream!!
