The day was blighted by a strong upstream wind that seemed constantly in our faces! Casting and mending were near impossible with tangles aplenty. We each caught a good 1.5 lb grayling, both of which were returned.
There wasn't a hatch of fly, just a dribble throughout the day, with only a few fish rising. None of these were trout, all either grayling or salmon smolts.
I still have not knowingly seen a trout on the Wye this season. It can't be just me. I wonder if it is still a bit cold. The water, although a little warmer now was still chilly.

Tough fishing because of strong SE wind. Arrived at western end reservoir by mid afternoon and spent fruitless 2 hours prospecting with lures and a booby + nymph set up. Around 6 PM a few fish were observed rising to ? midge emergers. Caught 700g rainbow using a DHS emerger pattern. Its stomach was full of frog remains. It would seem that arriving for the evening is the best use of time for this water. Unfortunately, early morning starts are not allowed by Welsh Water.

Despite there being a little too much water for this lower beat I had a very enjoyable first ever day of salmon fishing on the Wye. Nathan the Ghillie was excellent, he stayed with me all day and I was grateful for his in-depth knowledge of the water. He also explained the improvements that continue to be made to the beat; if they all happen then this will go from a good beat to an excellent one. I had one salmon grab my spinner but unfortunately it didn't stick. There are some good looking fly stretches and I hope to be able to fish them at a suitable water height in the future.
I will certainly return to this beat and the river Wye

No Salmon seen or caught. An enjoyable day nevertheless. What's happened to the 3 for 2 offer on this beat?

A bright day, warm in the sun, but with a chill Easterly wind, made for difficult fishing. Fish were rising, but neither the duo nor spiders could tempt them. A fellow angler had no luck with March Browns. The day was saved almost at the last cast with a 7" fish taken on point by a Hare's Lug #14.

March Brown hatches from 12.45pm - short and intense. Also olives hatching until 3.30pm. Had 8 trout with the best two @ 1lb 14oz each. Dry March Brown and Parachute Adams, Baetis nymph and Waterhen Bloa all caught fish. A very pleasant day.

Upon arrival everything looked quiet but as the temperature climbed the odd fish took something off the surface.
At the top of the beat fish were rising steadily to large olives. Sadly most were on the far side of the river and beyond reach. A couple of splashy risers were missed partly due to incompetence, incorrect fly pattern and drag.
5 fish missed, 2 hooked. A fascinating day in lovely conditions with the final score well in the fishes favour.

Beautiful day to be out on the river but slow fishing. Pleased to catch and return two fish of 10 & 12"on a GBHE nymph and dry March Brown imitation. Short March Brown rise got the fish going at about 12.30 but otherwise they showed little interest in the sporadic rises of smaller fly.
