After a wonderful spring day yesterday, today started decidedly iffy. However as the day wore on things improved enough to precipitate a couple of solid March brown hatches. Five good trout caught and safely released, including a classic Penpont Porker: just 17" but 3lb weighed in the net. Fat, deep and strong! By 3pm the sun was shining and spring was back. A great pity I had to leave early!

River 0.84m perfect. Fished for 6hrs on a great spring day. Saw silver 10-12 lber porpoise by the pub but no response to my offerings except a 4 oz trout at least twice the size of my Willie Gun Snaelda ! Hatch of olives at midday with a few rising. Small hatch of March Browns but no risers.

14 or so to hand between 4-7 inches from a low level blackpool brook in the hour fishing. All trout reacting to size 20 2mm brass beadhead nymph flicked into pacey water at the heads of pools. Lost several others from tight spots unable to keep a tight line. Great fun.

The Law of Sod!...I struggled all season to catch grayling on this beat but today got the biggest (19") and fattest of the winter ..but out of season! Becoming seriously time poor for fishing I grabbed the only day in the foreseeable to go,despite the forecast of steady light rain.
A special day..struggled until midday, no sign of fish and then the swallows appeared ! first I've seen this year and they were there for the flies, what followed was a steady varied series of hatches and the 8 trout ( 9-12") came to #16 Iron Blue , Greenwells and Adams. The grayling to #16 Kites Imperial......all from one pool.

One on for an electrifying few seconds at the Windmill Pool and then casting practice. Only saw one other fish move. Great day out though. 28 swans in the next field as I was leaving.
