A bit cold and windy but needed to get out and about, tried Klink and dink and then just heavier nymphs in the deeper pocket water, alas, to no avail...Surprised with how low the water level was. Good to be out though.

Three trout caught in total, all released - 0.75lb, caught on a grey Parachute Emerger, to Anthony Lavers; and 0.75lb and 2lb, both on a CDC Emerger, to Ben Tyser.
The weather was much warmer than the previous day at Ashford House, and that perhaps explained the much more persistent hatch (March browns and Large Dark Olives again). It lasted from about 1 o'clock to 4 o'clock at least. We had trouble keeping our fish on - we lost a further three, and missed another two...!
A lovely beat - really enjoyed exploring it.

River high and fast. Fishing with fly. Salmon conspicuous by their absence but we had a great time on a lovely river. WILL come again.

Despite a cold SE wind there was a decent hatch of olives (and possibly some grannoms), on and off from 12.30 to 3.30. Using Klink+dink I caught one decent trout and lost another on the nymph early on, then had sporadic action with the dry fly until about 3pm, losing several (including a bigger fish which ran across a heavy run and broke me in a snag on the far side), most of which were lightly hooked. Should I have been using a deer-hair emerger (which they might have taken better), and taken off the 'dink' which may have impeded the dry fly takes?!

Beautiful beat. Few match Browns hatching but only one rise seen during the day and no other activity found sub-surface.

3 to hand one at 12 inches, one at 16 inches and one at 20 inches. Also 3 about twelve inches lost to hook pulls. massive hatch of olives between 1-2 pm and not a single rise anywhere to be seen in fact other than in two pools there was no activity on the whole of the beat.. it is still very cold around Kington. I left home and it was 6 degrees and arrived an hour later and it was only 3 degrees. Cold rain also made fishing quite miserable.. first time on this beat and it is lovely to look at, I feel come May, it should fish well but sadly the way this spring is going who knows. Today felt like a mid January day..

A chilly but enjoyable day. In the sun shine it felt reasonably warm but during the wintry showers (which left the highest mountains briefly white) it was bitter. 3 brownies were caught, all on bead head GRHE nymphs, the best measuring 13.5", the others 11,5" and 10". Other fish were contacted and lost including one of about a pound (hooked and nearly brought to hand on a small DHE) and another of nearer 2lbs than 1lb hooked on a nymph. A fantastic mixed hatch of LDO and march brown duns lasted about 40 mins from 2pm and numerous trout came out to play. However, they were extremely selective and our flies were treated with almost total disdain. The rocks were slippery and as we'd been advised the wading was "exciting". Two separate parties of 5/6 canoes made their way past us while we fished.
