Afternoon session on a overcast warm day. Water had a lot of colour after a period of rain from the previous night. A few fish rising as I approached the river and took 2 healthy 12" fish within the first half dozen casts. Walked the water looking for feeding fish to target another 4 taken over the next couple of hours biggest being around the 16" mark. Think I may have started too late in the day, but lovely day to be on the river.

Arrived at the beat at 8am and the river was very muddy after heavy rain through the night. Decided to give it a go anyway as fishing days are hard to come by these days. Found a couple of seams where the muddy flow joined clearer water gently flowing from pools so approached them with some upstream nymphing which paid off with 3 trout all around 12".
On another note I fished today in felt soled boots which I decided to try after fishing the last 3 seasons in vibram soled boots which, despite the added studs, never gave me much confidence. They were a huge improvement, I would not have been able to wade in my vibram boots today, the visibility was so bad that I could not see 2" below the surface let alone the river bed. The felt soled boots have another level of grip, I am aware of the risk of transferring parasites between rivers if not dried properly but if this is done, I don't fish regularly enough for this to be an issue, for me felt soled boots will always be the way forward.

Fished from 9-1.30.....water level the lowest I've seen on this beat and quite coloured. Sparse and varied hatches either side of an hour of heavy rain. A treat to see several Blue Damselflies, electric blue against the fresh green of the banks. All fish came to size 16 para Adams,Greenwells and Tupps, however it was only the juveniles that were rising and the biggest fish was a meagre 8". Searched with nymphs for the parents but to no avail.

A perfect over-cast and fairly still day on the Edw with occasional showers sparking hatches. Ten of the usual small trout to Adams and Grey Duster. A few fish rising but mostly taking in the faster riffles. Masses of fly life and sporadic hatches including Mayflys, Mayfly spinners and red spinners.

Fished no more than 300 yards of the best upstream from the access point from 15:30 to 18:00 on a rather overcast and humid afternoon. A little rain about 17:00. Caught one 8" BT on a gold head PTN and long distance released another on the same fly. A steady mayfly hatch from about 17:00 brought a number of fish to the surface. I spent the last 30 minutes trying to catch one particular fish which despite managing to move half a dozen times I failed to hook. Nevertheless a wonderful few hours on a fine, wild beat. Excellent value.

Fishing:Salmon

A good fresh fish of 17lbs, caught by Andrew Cuthbert on Aramstone. The fish took a small fly, a Stoat's tail (size 10 double), which was being fished as a 'dropper'.
